First day back to school, and the year 12 jackets arrived this morning, YAY!! They look awesome, it really brought home the fact that I am now a year 12, such a weird concept. Found out that various people dropped out of Physics and Methods, so that my Physics class is down to 4 and Methods to 7... :( Looking forward to a great year this year, good luck to all those other people who have started Year 12 this week, have a great year!

Year 12 Jackets

2/2/17
Second day of school, and it wasn't too bad, actually. Had a double of Physics which was awesome, as I really love Physics, and we were looking at projectile motion which is great because it is really simple. We also talked about an excursion to Luna Park, which sounds awesome! In Chemistry we discussed an excursion to Monash Uni which I'm really looking forward to as that is one of the two Unis I'm looking at going to possibly after this year, so that should be great. Had a double English :( talking about Peter Skyryznecki's poetry, which isn't really interesting, but I lived... On the whole, this hasn't been a bad start to the year, pretty happy with how it's going. How's everyone else's Year 12 started?

Great to hear it has been a nice start Philboi!
I, too, have enjoyed my first three days back to school. Ironically its relaxing to have a more structured day after 2 months of freedom. It's awesome that you're already looking forward to upcoming events and your subjects. I wish my school had an excursion to Monash Uni :'(

Year 12 Jackets

That colour combination or variations thereof has got to be the most popular one across Victoria lol

Some of my friends discovered my AN profile today, and since I bag psychology as not being a science all the time people were laughing at my description of "(unqualified) psychologist", they don't seem to get the difference between bagging the subject psychology and bagging field psychology... Anyway, today is the day we do sport, but because of the 36+ degree forecast our volleyball match against the hardest team away was cancelled ;D which was awesome. Currently enjoying a 'free' since the work I am meant to do via distance now hasn't yet arrived. Had Chemistry, Methods and Texts this morning which were all pretty good. Sadly no Physics, my current favourite subject, but I guess I'll live... :P How's everyone else's day going?

No way! My school had...

... oh - the same colours.

Jackets look good, though, Marv.

We needed the burgundy in the edging just because that is our sports colour, but basically we were always going for navy blue, and it came down to grey or burgundy sleeves, and they both looked pretty good, but the class went for the grey to set us apart from previous jackets from our school, and in doing so made them fit in with the more common jacket style that everyone else has... :P

The decision between grey and burgundy sleeves also happened in my year level lol. I don't know why Reform (the company) even bother offering colours other than grey, navy, burgundy and white haha

Starting to think about maybe doing an exchange program in Uni with a uni in Canada/UK. Any suggestions, advice, experiences anyone is willing to share? Thanks heaps! :)

I'm basically going to explain this now, since I was pretty rushed when I initially asked. I know that I'm just starting Year 12 and you can't do exchange programs (at Monash at least) until 3rd year, so some might think that this is premature, but something I saw on one of the University Journey Journals just starting up made me suddenly think about it and it sounded really cool, so I've been doing research a couple of years in advance. I want to go to Monash (or maybe RMIT if I have decided on the branch of Engineering I want to do before receiving offers), and so in 3rd year I want to do either 1 semester or 2 in the UK on an exchange program! If anyone has any suggestions, ideas, experiences to share that would give me a better understanding of what it would be like that would be great! :)

It's been a pretty good week. Still loving Physics, enjoying Chem, Methods is OK, Spesh still hasn't started, T&T is still fun and English still the single most hated thing in my life... So in most ways it was a pretty normal week, but while I can cope with the fact that we are Year 12s now, it is still really hard to come to grips with the fact that the younger year levels are a year higher than they were last year! It also is weird to think that all 12 past years of our school lives we've looked up to the Yr 12s, thinking "it's going to be such a massive intense year" and yet now that we are here it feels even more chill than last year. Teachers are basically starting everything back from base level again, particularly in English where the teacher is entirely re-teaching us how to write essays! :P

Had our first volley-ball game of the season last week after the previous game against the tough team in the league was cancelled, and despite playing badly we smashed the other team in 3 sets... it almost hurts to destroy such a bad team... Good start to the season though, hopefully it keeps going!

Good to hear you're doing well, M.K! I agree with your statement about the younger year levels. Time flies when you're in a panic about schoolwork, amirite?

(Also, keep winning at volleyball. Volleyball is cool beans.)

Thanks man! The weird thing is how fast this year is going, despite the fact that I'm not yet in a panic about work. I haven't even received notifications about SACs yet, my first one isn't for about 3 weeks still, while the other classes seem to have all had their first on. Anyway, this is how the first few days of this week have gone for me:

English: Boring, continuing to learn more of Skrzynecki's poems, which aren't that great, tbh. Our teacher makes Thursday LA day, so that's better than having all the LA in one block at beginning/end of the year, so that you've forgotten the other topic by exam time... be thankful for small mercies. Even when it is English :(
Methods: Pretty interesting, doing differentiation of complex functions, using product/quotient/chain rule, dy/dx of circular functions and logs. At times it is really confusing, but always remember when it is complex, write everything down so that you don't get lost in the confusing formulas.
Specialist: Still can't get into the Distance Ed website... :P
Texts and Traditions: Still covering the background of Luke which I had read up on before the year started and it's really easy and a bit repetitive at the moment, but all pretty fun anyway. The teacher is pretty funny, but a bit repetitive and soporific.
Saving the best two 'til last...
Chemistry: Chemistry is pretty cool, I really enjoy it, though (and maybe to some extent 'because of') many of the concepts are tough and hard to understand/visualize. Looking at redox reactions and preparing to head into Galvanic cells, it's really interesting, with many real-life applications. Chemistry would be, along with Physics, one of the subjects I would strongly recommend to anyone interested in science. Part of that is because they are the only two real sciences... :)
Physics: I still love Physics from the bottom of my heart, it is 110% my favourite subject. We've just started learning about circular motion, and it is so fun and interesting. Some of the concepts are pretty challenging, but that is one of the best parts :D . The Physics teacher and the Chem teacher are the same, and he is such a great teacher, a VCAA Physics exam marker also which is great, because he can give us tips about what the markers are looking for. Really looking forward to the Luna Park excursion/SAC later on in the year!!!!

Sport: Playing another school in volleyball this afternoon, based on past experience they are pretty bad at sport, so hopefully an easy game will help us to improve the quality of our game before the crunch game against one of the best teams in a couple of weeks.

Hope everyone else's week has started as well as mine!

Side-note: Heading towards Mechatronics Engineering as my Uni course of choice, but we'll wait and see. :D
