Quite a provocative question. Are you just making assumptions here or drawing off genuine experiences you know.

Either of
1. They do work hard but you just don't see it
2. They have strong foundations and are just naturally good at math

The 2nd one really annoys me when people get good scores without studying

Some people just have a more logical brain and just get maths. I am ranked in the top 1/3 of my class and I put in very little effort whereas there are some who work their butts off and are ranked towards the bottom.

Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, they may do amazing at maths but then struggle at something else, for example I put the most effort into EngLang than any other subject yet I am ranked 2nd last in my class.

But someone who works hard and isn't naturally talented will usually do better than someone who is naturally talented but doesn't feed their talent by working hard. Hard work ALWAYS beats out talent in the long run, no matter how naturally talented a person is if they don't work hard they will not do as well as a person who does work hard.

In my opinion a hard worker can easily surpass someone that is naturally good. One can either complain about it or work hard enough to beat them. Getting annoyed over it helps no one.

This is true, but it is out of your control. Other people can be naturally smart, but with no work ethic, they would eventually find that one question that throws them off. Going back to yourself, say you only understand the basics, the continual exposure to questions and methods allow you to have some understanding of that 'separator question' (only because these questions are based on principles and content we should know). By working hard, you might find yourself in the position where "this question looks like something similar i did"; whereas the person with natural talent might really be in trouble.

Just an opinion, but all you can do is focus on yourself

Here's an insight from a non 'natural' at math.
I have never particularly been good at math. In years 9-11 I typically averaged in the Cs and low Bs in my math subjects. This year, however, I decided I'd actually put in the effort to attain a decent study score.
So what did I do?
I worked my behind off from the moment year 11 ended. I consistently challenged my understanding and put more hours into math than most of my other subjects. I did my exercises early and spent more time on doing exam questions and SAC question. This year I am proud to say I have averaged over 95% in both Methods and Further despite attending a competitive school. Sure I may have worked harder than the naturals but I have also performed better than most of them.

You're an inspiration, that hard work beats natural talent. Well done  :D ;D
