Title: Rebecca Black?
Post by: Charmz on June 16, 2011, 12:35:52 pm
So who wrote about her in their GAT and what did you say?

Eh lol, i spoke about Charlie Sheen and "Skrillex" and that in my opinion i believe strongly that both of them would prefer to be good at acting or making music through electronic devices (something that they each enjoy) over being accepted by fashion's standards.

Haha skrillex...

I talked about Rebecca Black getting mauled by wolves for punishment over Friday C=

Well, they were all for the Persuasive but I sort of extended the question out a LITTLE. But Rebecca Black was for the increasing dependance on superficial and materialistic social matters in our society, forgot to link more to fashion it self..., but i got the word 'partyin' in :) Charlie was for dominance of physical beauty AND FAME over goodness of heart (last prompt) Last was good ole' Binny, for 'yet we should be grateful for the freedom of expression through clothing in our democratic society because if under Bin Laden, we be severely restricted in our clothing by the Islamic...' etc.
Osama was the best, the other two were fails, but i sat there trying not to laugh when i came up with the examples.

Did anyone put OFWGKTA for the wolves? LOL

I said she got eaten by wolves :)

And in the fashion one I said: While some choose to express themselves through fashion, Rebecca Black expresses the dilemnas she faces in her life through song lyrics, by informing us about the fact she has 'gotta get down to the bus stop' to 'catch her bus', which is surprisingly something that would occur at a bus stop.  This is then followed by another problem Rebecca faces - deciding which seat to sit in.

Lmao, I said that rebbecca black is the reason why wolves are disappearing alll around the world.

Did anyone put OFWGKTA for the wolves? LOL
guilty!
Also mentioned the appeal of Tyler the Creator in fashion and how people aspired to dress and act like him. But yeah, last sentence, didn't get to finish but, "The future is odd for wolves, but luckily, their wolf gangs...."

The GAT was Fun, fun, fun, fun! XD

I wrote that 'rebecca black has recieved death threats based on her appearance alone, and these added social pressures are a key example of the tiered society fashion is creating'
I DID THE SAME THING :D well similar idea :D
Title: Re: Rebecca Black?
Post by: Charmz on June 16, 2011, 06:30:41 pm
I wrote her songs sends bad messages to children telling them it's okay to hate school and they should look forward to Fridays' and partying whereas little red riding hood sends good messages of not talking to strangers, etc....
EDIT Oh and that Rebecca Black is ruining today's society by introducing pointless songs.

I wrote about how child celebrities feel pressured to conform to what the media perceive as being 'fashionable', and that Rebecca Black, a Youtube sensation, will more than likely feel these pressures.
Title: Re: Rebecca Black?
Post by: Charmz on June 16, 2011, 08:23:34 pm
I also wrote people are more likely to do as they are told and spend money of 'fashion' which other 'celebrities' such as Rebecca Black wear. I wrote this one first so I was a bit clueless about what to write.

Ironically i said:
Being fashionable is about more than what we wear or how we look, it also includes the trends we follow. In recent years, year twelve student have been following the trend of mentioning famous people in their general achievement tests, and this year i predict more than 25% of victoria will mention Rebecca Black for her lack of talent. However, they do not consider the detrimental effects this could potentially have on their results and later on, their lives.

"it's no wonder that the myth of the wolf would seem nearly as terrifying as Rebecca Black's recent single 'Friday'"

Love the GAT.

Essay 1:
An episode of 'Coxy's Big Break'. Alaskan host is Charlie Sheen with Russian wolf expert Igor (FPS Russia inspired btw, uses same quotes). They have an informative yet interesting discussion. A promo at the ned to win VIP tickets to a Rebecca Black concert. 4 pages.

Essay 2:
An  article titled: 'To Wear or Not To Wear' (a big suck-up to examiners). I thought it was pretty scathing on fashion industries and their use of the media to influence Gen Y. Quoted from 'Beautiful' by christina aguilera (yes, that song), kinda fitted the essay. 2.5 pages.

MC:
Whatevs :P Walked out with 45 mins to go

The first essay I took on the persona of a zoo keeper jsut talking about wolves

i so wanted to add:
"the reason for the decline in wolf numbers in america is due to the fact that when people see a wolf charging at you at 65km/hr, they take out a shotgun and shoot it faster than they can shoot rebecca black when shes out in the open."

but i didnt :(

BUT
i did mention in the second one..

Wasn't going to randomly mention her, or Sheen. It fit in with Coxy's style and might get some lols with the examiner, which is always good for the GAT :)

(lol, I've only watched that show like twice, I just like the name I guess)

Mine was a bit simple.  I just titled Essay 1 "BIOLOGY REPORT by Rebecca Black".

As for the time I finished...I was the only one left in the room when the supervisor told me to put my pencil down.  I still had 5-10 questions to answer...how stupid of me!   :uglystupid2:

I did the multiple choice bit first :D
writing parts was just meh. i mentioned rebecca black in my second one about fashion - that if rebecca black looked as gorgeous as someone like Madonna not as much people would have posted threats and stuff on youtube. and then i signed my piece off as justin bieber. so technically justin beiber was talkign about Rebecca Black baha

Oh, how I miss the GAT. D:

I can't even remember last year's reference. I think I had like four.

I remember a friend making the same references in the English exams - one more importantly, on Romeo and Juliet. Encountering Conflict was a blast. (Y)

hahaha had one of the markers of the GAT come to my house today for lunch (family thing), and she mentioned in passing how so many essays were talking about Rebecca Black. She was also able to remember that Bear Grylls and George Clooney were in the past two years. Glad to know we left something for them to remember (Y)

When do VCAA publish the solutions to the MC section?

Guys, I'm in year 10 doing a 1+2 at the moment.
I'll need to do the GAT next year.
What exactly is it? An exam?
And doesn't it give you extra points if you miss out on an exam?
Which is very important??
Title: Re: Rebecca Black?

What exactly is it? An exam?
GAT = General Achievement Test. My understanding is that it is primarily used by VCAA to justify SAC marks given by schools, and to assist with scaling of these SACs. It is also used if a person is sick for an exam to produce a derived score.

And doesn't it give you extra points if you miss out on an exam?
It may or may not, depending on:
- How well you do in the specific section(s) of the GAT
- How well your SAC scores are
- Your predictions of your SS from your teacher (based on rankings)

Which is very important??
It is important, but no too important. As it is run by VCAA, take it seriously, but also, have a little bit of fun ;)
