I am a year 10 and since subject selection is coming up, I need to choose my VCE subjects.
I am either choosing English Language or standard English. I am a strong, academically in Maths and Science.
My current subject lineup is Math Methods, (Specialist or Further), Chemistry, Physics.
I am not that good in grammar but I am averaging 80 - 90% in English assessments.
I am only considering EngLang as that it's more math/scientific and I don't really like the repetitve theme work and don't enjoy reading.
At my school, we never really cover grammar throughout all the year levels.
Further - 46 (2019)

Hi, WonkyN,

You seem to know what you want. If you enjoy analysis and, basically, the science behind words, you'll do well in EngLang. If you hate reading, there's more to do in English. Ultimately, this is your choice, but from what you've described, EngLang might even help you improve your grammar and you'll probably enjoy it more than normal English.

Have you read through both of the VCE study designs? It might not seem important now, but trust me I wish I'd done this when I was deciding between Eng and EngLang! Take a look through what's described in both 1/2 and 3/4 - that way, you know what's coming and can make an informed decision.

Here's the links to the Study Designs of English and EngLang:

It doesn't matter if you don't really study grammar throughout previous years - you're at school to learn, so if there's something you don't know that's the best place to ask about it! Don't be afraid to meet with teachers and ask what they think as well. And no pressure about the decision - it's easy to change in 1/2 if you decide you don't like the choice you've made. Good luck. I'm sure you'll excel in anything you put your mind to. :)
