I don't see a problem with year 8's having their own thread. If anything, I encourage it. The study habits you develop in year 8 will continue with you all the way to year 12 and beyond.
2012 ATAR - 86.75
2013 ATAR - 88.50
2014: BSci (Statistics) at RMIT
2015 - 2017: BCom at UoM

Hey, on the bright side, I'll probably look very silly in a few year's time when you're all smashing VCE. :D

I completely agree! I don't graduate till 2016, and the only reason I have an account on ATAR notes is because I'm currently completing VCE subjects - but honestly, chill out guys! I strongly recommend you don't start selecting VCE subjects just yet. At least, don't start looking in depth at them until you're coming to the end of year 9. Even that is pretty early.

As I said before, this isnt a thread about VCE. Most year 8s are on this forum because of the selective entry exam. Never said anything about selecting VCE subjects, the people who were saying that before were being sarcastic, they arent even in year 8.

Lol. From what I've seen of the UMAT it's a lot about understanding people. You can't learn to understand people from a textbook, that comes from real life experience. Fact.

The majority of it is not about understanding people.
Section 2 is understanding people, but Sections 1 and 3 are logical reasoning and spatial reasoning.

Anybody is welcome to post in any thread on this forum. If people are derailing a thread, report their post and I'll deal with it (or another mod will).

If anyone's still paying attention to this thread at all, hi.  :-\
I'm a current Year 8 (Year 9 2015). I'm not going to a selective entry school, but I am doing Japanese 3/4 and Philosophy 1/2 next year, so I for one was glad this thread was made.
In all honesty the Year 12's replies were pretty funny. Keen I am. Scared, but keen. I'll show you all up when I only have one more 3/4 to study in Year 12  ::)

Nice to meet you any other ambitious/keen/crazy Year 8s.

Did any of you hear of the Year 8 this year who get 50 for Spesh? And I thought I was keen.

Hahaha you're all so awesome!!! 3/4 in YEAR 9!!! THAT's incredible!

The kid who got a 50 in specialist o.O couldn't do that even if I'd had Year 13 and 14 to study hahaha

I feel like VCE is so rigidly restricted to Yr 11 and 12.

Ideally, the BEST VCE program would be to have 2 3/4 subjects in Year 10 (probably bottom two - content revision ones like biology/PE/health and human development etc.) then a language and an 'easy' maths in Year 11 (like French and further maths) then an English and a harder maths/chemistry in Year 12 (like Literature, Chemistry and Specialist/Methods)

Why DON'T schools encourage kids to branch out like this! IMAGINE doing 2 subjects in Year 12 - you would just have SO MUCH TIME!!!

Thank you ;u; God knows how I'll go, but at least I can do it again.
Oh I knoooow... I was amazed. I'm not planning to do any math and even if I did there'd be no way I could do that well.

I find it weird that people call 1/2 subjects 'Year 11 subjects' and 3/4s 'Year 12 subjects'.

True true true. That sounds like a good plan actually. Having those in Year 12 would no doubt be easier with the amount of time you'd have compared to just doing the 'normal' way.

By the way, congratulations on an amazing ATAR!! And a perfect study score in English  :o

Dude. That's awesome your starting so early! Yeah, Jerry Mao. Slayer.
Good to see some more CO18's around :)
Curious, have any of you guys done any calculus yet? I've just started and it's pretty cool :)
Also, does anyone do tutoring?

Dude. That's awesome your starting so early! Yeah, Jerry Mao. Slayer.

I recall having that kid in my maths class and sitting next to him, only to realise that he beat me on every single test.

Sigh.

For sure... I can't even like...   :o howwww? He must be dedicated. Pity he isn't on ATAR Notes haha (or is he?)

Calculus = naw. I'm not sure what the syllabus for next year will be for me since we're in streamed classes. This year it was linear equations/graphing (only straight, linear lines. No curves yet (is that calculus? idek)), measurement (perimeter, area, volume), fractions/decimals/percentages and probably more but I don't care remember.

Tutoring = naw. Maybe for kids that go to selective entry schools but I just go to a regional school and I don't know anyone that gets tutoring (unless they're under-achieving). I'm thinking about it though. If money allows, if I need it. First world problems.
