Quick Geometry question

What does AB with a small parabola over the top mean? Does it denote a curve between two points?

It refers to a circular arc between two points.

Best example I can think of is the unit circle. Let A be the point (0, 1) and B be the point (1, 0). The value of arc AB is .

I don't have the book with me right now but does it have anything to do with the circumcircle (I thought of that when you said unit circle)?
