Physics - Discussion, Questions, Potential Solutions
« on: November 06, 2020, 02:09:43 pm »
Hey Everyone, :D

This thread is to talk about the HSC Physics exam which took place today. How are we all feeling about the exam?

I liked this exam and thought it was pretty reasonable, though there were a few questions which were confusing. Also, there were so many 7 and 8 marker questions as well as that one 9 mark question.

Keen to see how everyone else went!

what do people think the Band 6 cutoff will be for Physics this year?

The paper wasn't particularly well balanced. Module 8 was almost entirely left out, and the conservation of energy was present in 3 questions.
Also, one question was incredibly vague and relied on two unusual assumptions.
It was more like an engineering exam in parts.

Many of the high performing students left disappointed as it didn't give them the opportunity to demonstrate the depth of their knowledge, especially for Module 8.

I hope they create a more syllabus connected paper next year.

I found the exam pretty good! I do agree though - it had some weird questions, like the law of conservation (9 marks on that?!) and also the box/pulley question...

What did everyone put for the H-R diagram mc? Also to the above poster, I thought box and pulley was okay. I wrote about Torque and the variables, back EMF and frictional force. There was a lot of theory though. So much writing, it felt like Studies of Religion.

I'm wondering if anyone has solutions for physics exam 2020?

Hey (PhysChemMath)^iπ :D

Currently the marking guidelines haven't been released yet, but below is a video from "PhysicsHigh", going through the multiple choice questions with explanations (I don't know how accurate it is):

I hope this helps!
