Rank 1 exam performance

Hi guys
I have seen a few things here regarding the exam performance of the rank1 person in that cohort. Does anyone know- does this really affect everyone elses scores alot? Im starting to get a little worried!  :-\
If no1 rank messes up on the exam, can other people still get study scores higher than them and do well?

EDIT: I should add that I am ranked no1 in one of my subjects (know this for a fact cuz of this award thingy) and Really i have given up and lost heaps of motivation. In my practise exams I am barely getting 60/80- which is not no1 rank performance i think. Lately I dont care how I do but I really dont want to disadvantage my peers due to me giving up! Basically i am wanting to know if other people will be negatively affected by my poor exam performance
