2021 tutoring full, taking expressions of interest for 2021 waitlist and 2022

In the last 5 years, I've helped over 60 students prepare for their VCE journey and beyond. I believe that every student, regardless of where you are now, is capable of being the best in your class, your year, or the state. If you are committed to making the most of your year, you will absolutely experience a complete change in mentality, performance and results - so I've decided to put my money where my mouth is.

To date, I am the only Melbourne tutor (that I know of) to offer a 45+ raw score (Methods and Specialist) guarantee. I'm confident that I will transform your Mathematics results, improve your confidence and create real impact. After 1 year if you complete all assigned work yet do not receive a 45+ study score, I will fully refund all your tuition payments for the year.

Why me:

I was admitted as the only Australian in 2019 to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, #1 ranked university, QS World University Rankings 2020) for their deferred M.B.A program.

- 2 students achieved 50 raw study scores
- 9 students (20%) achieved 45+ raw study scores

More than just academics:

Coaching should be more than just Mathematics or VCE success. I help students grow and develop as people, helping them become better equipped for university and their careers. I strongly believe in building relationships that extend far beyond a students' year of tuition.
I have extensive experience helping students gain admission into elite Ivy League universities such as Yale, Princeton and Columbia. In addition, I also have experience helping past students secure job offers from some of the most competitive companies in the world such as Facebook and McKinsey.

Customised learning to fit your goals:

I offer a unique mentoring style, designed to fit your specific goals. My priority is to ensure that you are completely satisfied with your experience.

Testimonials

Student 1 (MacRobertson Girls, 50 raw in Maths Methods):
Spoiler
Rob is the most genuine, friendly, generous and intelligent tutor I’ve ever met, and I’m incredibly grateful to have contacted him as I was entering Methods 3/4 this year. Unlike many other tutors, Rob doesn’t just ‘tutor’ you, but so much beyond that.

Firstly, he is extremely flexible and easy to contact. Whatever time it was, if I shot him a message asking him about something or a problem to solve, he’d always reply at least within a couple of hours. Whenever I couldn’t turn up to our lesson, he was always fine with rescheduling to a different time and making sure that I wouldn’t fall behind.

Secondly, his knowledge and understanding of the actual course content, as well as HOW to approach your studies, is boundless. He is thorough with his explanations and willing to explain solutions in multiple ways until you fully understand how to go about it. Moreover, his familiarity with how the scoring system works allows him to give you accurate and constructive feedback.

Thirdly, he provides an extensive list of resources, ranging from his own weekly notes and weekly tests, ’sets’ (question booklets), past SACs from various schools and other sources, and connections with professional examiners.

But most importantly, he genuinely cares about each and every one of his students, and is willing to invest hours outside of ‘class time’ to help his students’ needs. He is dedicated, hard-working, and extremely motivated, through both his own work and through helping his students, and the most supportive tutor I’ve ever had.

Student 2 (Qazser, AN, 42 raw in Maths Methods):
Spoiler
Rob’s philosophy
Robert is an outgoing, generous and incredibly intelligent tutor who only strives for your excellence not only academically, but in all aspects of life, as an individual in society. As a high-achieving graduate of Scotch College, Rob transfers the ethos of hard work and innovation across to all of his students, constantly pushing them to improve and perform to the best of their ability.  His position as a moderator of ATARNotes only reiterates his unequivocal generosity to help others perform their best, often with little reward. His connections to numerous 99.95s graduates and leading teachers (Chief examiners, Specialist and Methods panel) from the past few years, also allow him to better provide advice for his students from experiences of the best in the state.
In Class
Throughout every class, he writes up custom notes tailored to your needs and aims to tackle any flaws in your conceptual knowledge, which he reinforces in giving you exam-style worksheets. These worksheets are the product of numerous hours of relentless typing and formatting. Generally, Rob provides two of these worksheets, which he calls sets, a week for practice, which he then marks to iron out any conceptual or notation errors. Rob had 11 students in 2016 and spent at least 20 hours of direct person-person tutoring a week. Add on the frequent skype calls to touch up on issues or the time spent marking sets, writing notes and the extra hours when we had a Sac coming up, Rob’s generosity is second to none.

Outside of Class
“Sets”
These sets are generally typed up in a word document, and take roughly 30-90 minutes per set, depending on ability and length of the set. They comprise of exam-style and sac-style questions, which adequately prepares you for your upcoming Sacs and ultimately for the end of year exam. There are roughly 100 sets to complete before exams, which accounts for roughly 30 sets of exams. With additional practice exams to be completed later in the year, Rob sets a solid foundation of exam questions to prepare you for the dichotomy of exam questions that could come up on the end of year exam.

Resources
Rob’s resources are second to none. Ranging from 10 years’ worth of Sacs from elite schools (Scotch, MHS, John Monash, Mac Rob), to complete sets of practice exams dating back to 2001, the ‘sets’ he creates, copies of every Methods/Spesh textbook, Methods/Spesh Notes from numerous sources and worksheets/tests from prominent companies (ExamPro, TSSM etc.).

Help outside of class
Rob uses the likes of Skype, as aforementioned, Facebook Messenger, email to communicate with his students. His response time is stellar (replying to me at 3am one time) and he is willing to write up long and tedious solutions for questions in order to reinforce your understanding of the concepts behind it.

My personal achievements with the help of Rob
As a student averaging 65% in Maths Methods 1/2, I came into the year aiming for a 35+ raw. Over the year, Rob’s constant tutorage only improved my mathematical ability greatly and in the weeks before my exam, I was only dropping between 0-5 marks on a full exam (120 marks), and thus aiming for 47+. It was only due to Rob’s relentless help and desire for my excellence that I’ve been able to achieve so highly throughout the year, a stark contrast to the 35+ I was initially aiming for. And whatever my study score is at the end of the year, I know that its only due to this excellent role model, that I’ve been able to score as well as I could. I have no regrets in picking Rob as my tutor, because he is simply a great teacher and an outstanding role model of society that all of us can aspire to be.

Conclusion
Get him if you haven’t already, the kind of value, knowledge and resources Rob has is incredible and certainly second to none in the state. He’s the type of tutor that all tutors should aspire to be, generous, intelligent and certainly caring for all his students, one that puts his students’ excellence ahead of his. Whether you are a student that struggles to pass or a maths genius aiming for 50 in Spesh, you can only benefit from the tutorage of Rob, because Rob will put in the effort in order for you to get a result you aspire of achieving.
11/10. Would recommend to anyone.

Student 3 (Ivy, MacRobertson Girls):
Spoiler
Year 11 Methods was a nightmare, prioritizing 3/4 subjects when methods was also my weakest subject meant that my scores were at an all-time low. Confidence plummeted, and so I decided to find a methods tutor to make methods in year 12 a bit less hell. Luckily, Rob was the tutor I decided to contact. From the first email, Rob was professional, insightful, friendly and patient. I left our first (free) consultation session feeling like I had equipped myself with the best chance of conquering this year. One of Rob's greatest strengths is his flexibility. Whether its time, ability or location, Rob's willingness to answer any questions outside of class time, reply quickly with comprehensive and detailed explanations, offer additional (free) skype sessions, mark the numerous sets (booklets of practise questions) was really motivating just in itself. In addition to his mathematical prowess, Rob has a deep understanding of the technicalities of SAC scores, ranking etc and through this, can back you up with numerical data which helps you keep perspective. Whilst many tutors fail to strike the balance between putting too much pressure on their students and putting no pressure on them, Rob has managed to find this sweet spot. His structured set work allows for comparisons of performance throughout the year, through which a upwards trend can easily be identified, boosting confidence and motivation. I have no hesitations in recommending Rob as a maths tutor 🙂

Student 4 (Colin, East Doncaster, 45 raw in Maths Methods):
Spoiler
Mathematical Methods 1/2 was one of my least favourite subjects when I completed it back in year 10. I disliked it simply because I was just an average maths student and the concepts were difficult to grasp. Due to school regulations I had to complete Further Mathematics 3/4 in year 11 instead of Methods 3/4, it wasn't very beneficial to me as all my methods knowledge left me whilst I was focusing on Further Maths. But there was one positive that I could take out of that, it was that I didn't have to compete with Rob that year in Methods. I'm really glad to have met Rob in primary school and to have asked him to be my maths tutor. Previously I tried out many other tutoring companies but none of them suited my needs. However Rob was different, during the year he was not only a friend but also a teacher that inspired and motivated me to work hard. The most iconic thing about robs tutoring, must definitely be his logbook and sets. They serve to not only reinforce conceptual knowledge but also to fully minimise 'careless mistakes'. Rob has both an extensive knowledge and a myriad of resources. It is robs dedication, compassion and care for his students that make him the best tutor I've had.
