Are H2A's good? Just got 3 of them and notsheriff want. Also are breadth's worth less in contributing to your GPA or w/e?

H2A's are great. Think of it as a distinction average. Breadth's are worth the same, that's the beauty of them.

Cool. I keep thinking of H2As as the equivalent of a B.

A H2A is kind of equivalent to a D+ (as in Distinction plus) whereas a H2B is more so a Distinction, you can think of it that way for an extra confidence boost!

Stonecold, I just had a big realisation - I think I've met you!
The Finnish word pilkunnussija, which translates literally to “comma fucker,” is someone who risks his social wellbeing to annoyingly and persistently point out punctuation errors.

Completed VCE in 2010 - Now doing BSc at UoM

I've got a few questions regarding the total points requirements, what happens if you pass all your units but you do an extra 1 or 2 units on top of the 24 units for your degree? And of course, satisfy the commerce and breadth elective point requirements for each level and complete all core units.
Are we even allowed to do this? lol
If we are how do the fees work for it? And would all of them appear on the academic transcript?

Cheers!

You have to take CAP subjects. Otherwise, fit it into the 300 points and satisfy all the other requirements of your course. That means a minimum of 50 points of breadth and 50 points of Level 3 major study, etc.

Are any of you guys doing summer school? Just to get a subject out of the way and ease the work load further down the track? Think its a good idea? :)

I'm doing summer subjects to avoid overloading. Picking up a DipLang in German. I've applied for the Summer subject, but I can't find it in the timetable, so I'm not sure there's enough demand for them to run it.

I'm taking Foundations of Electrical Networks in Summer and I've just got all the course material. I'm doing this because of my exchange trip, and I did seriously want to knock off a pre-req class in the summer to avoid the high contact hours in years down the track. I personally would recommend it just because 4 months of holidays is a tad too much for me, and even with a class, I'll still be having a 4 day weekend.

Ahh ok I see.
Doing some further research, I see for Masters of Engineering either requires you to take the engineering breadth stream or to complete 2 1st year math units and 25 points in physics/chemistry depending on the specialisation. Which comes to a trade off between double major in undergrad with a few CAP units and 3 year Masters or single commerce major and engineering breadth sequence with a 2 year Masters. Hmmm

You can also get diplomas where half the subjects are paid for.

If you do a DipLang it's an extra 100 points of study outside your degree (as in I now have 400 points total, another 8 subjects, which is 1 extra year of study).

If you complete it, you get the last 50 points for free.

You could be able to do something like that for maths. Check it out.

Yeah I took a look at that and I've done Calc 2 and Linear Algebra which puts me in a good position to start it. What do you guys think of doing a diploma in mathematics in order to give you a bit of an edge? How much would it effect employment prospects? I mean I enjoy learning math but I don't really want to fork out a few extra grand and maybe a semester to do something that may not give me much more of an advantage employment wise.

What's your major?
I'm thinking Finance/Economics or Finance/Eng stream, I don't think actuarial is for me. And at this stage considering post-grad options as well. Still not sold on anything same as this time last year, but at least I've gotten first year of uni out of the way! lol :P

If you are doing Finance / Eng, I wouldn't recommend doing a Maths Dip because Engineering has enough mathematics in it for employers to know that you are good at it. If you are doing Finance / Eco, I think it would be more beneficial to do an honours year in fin or eco (depending on what field you want to work it) rather than do a maths dip. I've heard (from actual people and whirlpool forums), that getting a job in economics these days requires an honours year minimum, and finance is quite competitive as well (hearsay).
