^ After reading posts on this thread, I just realise so many yr 11 students do methods unit 3/4 :OOO
You are all amazing :)

You have to assign them yourself, I found this quick tutorial on Youtube for the Classpad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCDgYfLl6Rw
:)

Thank you D.H!  Did you know of any other cool things like that?
I feel asif I owe you my life haha! I from year 10 onwards I regret purchasing the Classpad for its limited number of buttons :)
Do you know of the TanLine( function?  It'll automatically calculate a tangent to at the desired point.

Yes I went to the Derrick Ha lecture and probably the most useful piece of information that I learnt was the TanLine( and normal( function which actually saves a LOT of time. I really never touched the cat section because I thought it all looked like garbage I'd never use. I always get a little excited when I get the opportunity to use TanLine( or normal(.

Ahah, I also found out about the TanLine and Normal function from the Derrick Ha lecture!

Can someone teach me how to use the Tanline( and Normal( function.
I understand where it is on the CAS, but I don't know what syntax is needed to execute the equation in the CAS.

Don't even bother with cat, you can just access both of these by going to Main --> Interactive --> Calculation and then looking to the second section. Input the expression, a point and voila!

I understand where it is on the CAS, but I don't know what syntax is needed to execute the equation in the CAS.
Example, if you want to find the equation of the tangent of the function y=x^2 at x=1, here is what you enter:
TanLine(x^2, x, 1)

Sure! :D
I assume you're using the Classpad haha

So lets say you want to find the tangent and the normal of the equation y = x^2 at x = 3

Tangent Line
Main
- Interactive
- - Calculation
- - - tanLine
a window should pop up,
Expression: x^2 (just the rule of the expression)
Variable: x (just the variable you're using, most likely x or t)
Point: 3 (the x-value of the point you want the Tangent at)

Alternatively, if you're using the catalogue
tanLine(x^2,x,3)
so tanLine(Expression, Variable, Point)

Normal
Exactly the same thing, however, in the interactive menu pick 'normal'
same format in the cat aswell :)

This is amazing! I always found the tanline for MCQ by going into graph and tab -> tanline. SIGH, how could I not notice that XD.

TanLine is awesome for MC questions, but if we are asked it in the Extended Response section, worth say 2 marks, I'm assuming we would have to solve by hand?

Solve it by hand, but at least you'll have your CAS to check your answer.

Hahah, you be cheeky, this is what I'd do

1) Find dy/dx (using calculator)
2) Find gradient at point (substitute using calculator)
3) Write, y - y1 = m(x - x1)
4) Write that again, with the correct values in place
5) Use TanLine to get the right answer, write down the right answer ;)

Is writing y - f(x1) = m(x - x1) appropriate?

I don't think so. Your notation should be consistent
