I reckon you should do Poetics of the Body. I have no idea what it is, but it sounds cool.

Personally, I like the model. I'm lucky in that I have an interest in an area not covered by my faculty. I can understand where people who just want to do what their course is, though. I think the best approach is the one at Monash, where you can use those eight subjects in or outside of the faculty, or any combination in between.

seriously, i am gonna just try to pick the biggest bludge subject there is. I dont see the point of wasting my time on learning something else. Just do the subs required for my major, pass them all without spending extra time on my breadth (which probably wont take me anywhere) and walk out with a good masters degree.

ANyone wanna share their views on this?

If so, wat good bludge subs are there?

IMO that's a really poor attitude towards 25% of your degree. The subjects are only a 'waste' if you want them to be. They're supposed to enrich your education and degree, making you not such a one-dimensional graduate. I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find subjects for breath which can complement and enrich your education.

Majoring in Accounting and Finance

why?

Well I really wanted to do Finance as my major, but the current economic climate has forced me to also consider Accounting as my possible future career. Is there any problem with these two majors?

Interesting...why did you want to do Finance as your major, and what is your basis for believing that Accounting will be relatively safe from the economic downturn?

Well finance has always interested me, international markets, stocks etc etc (I know this is a very basic level, hence why I wanted to study it), however I do not believe Accounting will be safe from the economic downturn - it seems no jobs are in any career. It's just the large amount of financial jobs being lost worries me about future career options. At least, as far as I am aware, more financial jobs are being lost than accounting.

Interesting. Why not Economics or say Actuarial?

Ultimately I would love a career in finance/banking, however with the current circumstances this seems dangerous. However I have read (off BoS - not sure how accurate it is), that it is much easier to change to finance from accounting than vice versa.

Well although I'm relatively competent at maths, Actuarial seems out of the question as I've heard the maths is crazy hard, furthermore I think Specialist maths is required.
Economics also interests me, however I am also concerned at the amount of mathematics required. I do realise most commerce requires some level of maths, however I'm not sure if I'm capable of the math which economics requires.

As long as it isn't actuarial-hard, I think I shall be able to keep up. My rather average Methods mark was primarily caused by my ignorance of the level of difficulty and the amount of study/practice required to excel in the exam. Thankfully this was in year 11 allowing me to realise the amount of work needed for Year 12.

However, what would you recommend for my majors and why? (keeping in mind that I pretty much have my heart set on a career in finance/banking)
