Hi,

My teacher probably has explained what happens in the HSC exam for music 2 a thousand times, but I kinda forgot haha. I was actually confused about what's in the last question - something to do with an essay question based on what composers or styles we have studied. I heard we can prepare our essay and memorise it for the exam, but how would we know if the essay would fit the question?
Thanks

Hey, slothologist!

The Music 2 exam tests both Year 11 and 12 content and consists of short answer questions and an extended response/essay. The short answer section can test any of the concepts of music for unseen texts, as well as a melodic dictation question. The essay question is usually around 10 marks and can refer to either the mandatory topic and/or your elective topics. You'll use the set works you studied in class as examples in it. I don't think it's wise to memorise an essay for it since they can be super broad but they could also specify a concept or a number of works (no more than three though) to use. I would instead prepare notes with bar examples that illustrate all the different concepts for your set works. You can look at my notes for a reference example here if it helps. Hopefully that answers your question but let me know if you need anything else clarified  ;D

Collaborative music question bank!

This is a place where people can post their favourite song or a piece they think would be good to analyse, a link to a YouTube version & a question to answer. :)

It essentially becomes a huge thread of practice questions where you can find a new question to answer and (hopefully) post your own song & question for others to use. It should be a really quick way to be able to make questions to practise. They won’t be properly formatted questions like the HSC, however I will try to make some of those later on in the year. If you have any questions about how to analyse a piece or want feedback on an answer, feel free to post it here or on the question thread.

Hope to see heaps of people contributing to this thread!!  ;D

Hello! Was wondering if it would be okay for me to post answers to these here or if I should post them somewhere else :)
