Specialist Vs Legal...which one?

I was wondering if I should do specialist math or legal studies for year 12. My marks so far for legal studies are higher than Specialist Math, but the thing is, legal studies does not scale up at all where as specialist math scales by 11-12 marks. I honestly enjoy learning in both classes, for specialist math its about learning difficult concepts but for legal its about memorization. Not sure which one I should keep and which I should drop out next year. So, if there are any legal studies/specialist who can give advice please do so.

Hey!

I think that you shouldn't focus too much on the scaling of the subjects. The scaling is just there to balance out the different levels of competitiveness in the subject cohorts.

So, I'd say choosing the subject you want to do depends on how much you enjoy each of them and how well you do in them. You've said that your grades are higher for Legal studies, so which one do you enjoy the most?

Also, this is my personal experience but I've found that Specialist Maths took up a lot of time. I dedicated more time and effort to this subject compared to other subjects. So, I think it's worth considering the differing time commitments to Legal studies and Specialist. For e.g, if the other subject you are doing are difficult and/or require a lot of time and effort or you have other extracurricular/work commitments, then maybe taking on Specialist wouldn't be a good idea. But then again, if you really enjoy it, you could still take it.

So, when it comes down to making a decision, it's a good idea to consider all these different factors and then see which one you are leaning towards.

Hope this helps.

As someone who does specialist maths, I advise against doing spec if the scaling is the only factor. People think maybe they can get a 30 raw and that will scale to 41. But the fact is, Specialist maths has quite a heavy workload and is highly competitive.
I do enjoy maths, and I really like the content in spec (MUCH more interesting than methods).
So keeping that in mind, if you think you will enjoy Spec, it is definitely rewarding and I'd HIGHLY recommend it. I'd also be thinking about how this will go with your other subjects, as in, do they compliment each other (they don't need to), will the workload be manageable, etc.

Did you find Spec 3&4 harder or easier than 1&2 in terms of content?
