Lowest SAC Rank but aced Exams.
« on: June 30, 2021, 09:50:18 pm »
Hi. I wanted to set an extreme situation where a student is ranked the lowest in the cohert, but is able to completely ace all the exams. Assume that the lowest exam score is 50%.

What raw study score would that student get in any given subject?

Quite difficult to say for certain but assuming you were ranked very low in the cohort and scored decently well on the exam you study scores could range from high 20's to 30+ but probably not high 40+

Well ‘ranked’ exam score and your own exam score are added and averaged. So disregarding any weightings, you would have an exam score of around 75%.

For most subjects, 75% is around the mid to high A range (sometimes low A+). And, ‘A’ usually places you at around the top 18 to 20% of students, so a mid A could even be top 15%. Using the study score distribution; you’d be looking for AT MOST a 37 study score for most subjects.
Now, depending on the weightings of the sacs, it’s likely to be a bit lower.

If you took the most extreme situation...

Ranked last -> 50% (assume that a C+ for a subject like Specialist, which gives a z-score of maybe -0.2).

Then proceed to 40/40 E1 and 80/80 E2 (which would have z-scores of in the high 2s-low 3s range).

Your end result is 0.33 *-0.2 + 0.67 * 3.0 = ~2

That result would be good enough for a ~45 raw study score in specialist
