Title: Anyone want to join me in learning to code? (Project Euler)
Post by: keltingmeith on September 14, 2020, 05:21:54 am
https://projecteuler.net/about

I've always felt like this is a really useful skill, but never really took the plunge in learning to code. Whenever I've asked people, they've always said to learn by doing - but everything I've wanted to do has had too steep a learning curve.

However, project Euler here is all about using short, simple maths problems to teach you to code - the only caveat is that it normally requires doing maths on numbers so big and checking through libraries of numbers so big that you HAVE to use some form of coding to find the answer. I already know a fair amount about Excel work (which is how I did the 5th subject and study score calculator stuff), but wanted to learn python, and am now using Project Euler to do so.

Anybody else interested in joining me? Could be fun to have a few hands, where we could discuss doing problems together! Even for people already experienced in programming who want to try the more experienced level questions, we could just talk about our own respective problems - and who knows, some of the ideas of those who don't know programming could prove beneficial

I'll join! Although I won't be doing this much because of year 12. Just about to start 'multiples of 3 and 5'. However, I'll probably take a long time to do any and won't do very often. Sounds interesting though!

Yeah, I've zoomed on ahead in this and am now up to problem 12, having way too much fun

Would still love to hear how you're going with problem 1 and see how you did it. I found out very quickly that my solution for problem 1 was much more lengthy than others, hahah, would love to see how you go :)

I'm completely lost... haven't touched python for way too long and can't remember how to do things... I'm slowly working through it though. I'll get to finishing it... eventually :)

Just came across this - pretty interesting!

First two problems are pretty trivial if you have some form of coding & maths background, and that's all I've completed so far; I'll have to see how much further I get. Definitely something I'll try to work on between uni stuff :)

Woah! Never heard of this before, but I might give it a go in my free time! My programming and maths are pretty basic tho  :P

I'm a pretty big fan of Project Euler, I've completed like 110 problems.

I started it in year 10 and it was fun coming back and being able to solve more problems due to more Math/Algorithms I had learnt.

It's not for everyone though, particularly if you're not a fan of maths.

110!?!?!?!?! That's amazing!

It's been a 5 year journey, majority of it was done in the first 3 years though. :)
