So... I have been thinking about my options because I am interested in getting another Unit 3/4 knocked over in Year 11... Would I need to do unit 1/2 Accounting...is unit 1/2 needed to understand unit 3/4? I'd love advice from any of you who have studied it!
Thanks! :D
Someone told me to grow up yesterday. I immediately banned that person from ever riding my unicorn!

Whilst I completed both Units 1/2 and 3/4 of VCE Accounting, I did have a close friend that picked up the subject as a 3/4 who definitely struggled during throughout the year. Whilst she was able to articulate the theory and definitions well, her actual understanding of the content, and ability to apply this to theoretical scenarios was something she struggled with immensely. Many of the concepts in Units 3/4 accounting are introduced in Units 1/2, and as Maddy has already stated, having a thorough understanding of these points allows you to start practice exams earlier and provides you with a competitive edge. Definitions of the accounting elements, understanding of financial indicators, FIFO, special journals, internal control, cash vs profit, source documents, reports etc. can all be solidified during Units 1/2, making both the workload and comprehension in Units 3/4 far easier.

That being said, it is not impossible if you are prepared to work hard, and seek advice. Given that there is also a new study design for 2019, there is likely to be a variety of concepts that are new for the entire cohort, not just you. (Disclaimer: I know very little about the new study design, so take this with a grain of salt). I also did two Year 12 subjects in Year 11, and have never regretted my decision to do so. However, given that you are entering Year 11 and have the opportunity to complete Units 1/2, I would definitely recommend this. Most of the concepts in VCE Accounting build upon one another, and forming a foundation of the basic elements and accounting equation during Units 1/2 is beneficial. If you really want to do a second Year 12 during Year 11, I would recommend a theory based subject (eg. Legal Studies, given your 2020 subjects), as this decreases the workload in Year 12, and is something you can really focus your energy into when you have limited Year 12 subjects. Good luck with next year, approach tasks with determination and resilience, and I’m sure you’ll get the results you deserve.
