Hey there, so it's my first year at Monash this year and I was pretty unlucky with my timetable, especially on Mondays when I have a 8am FIT1051 class and a 3pm FIT1045 class 7 hours after that. I've just read the unit guide for FIT1051 and it states that there will be in-lectorial quizzes each week that add up to 10% of my total grade for the unit. Is there any way I can get away with skipping the lectures (and watching them at home of course) or would my best bet be to contact my lecturer once classes commence?

Thanks!

I am familiar with the unit you are speaking of - it would be best to contact the lecturer to try and arrange something else. 10% is a significant amount at university level. Could essentially be the difference between a HD and D (or even a pass & fail).

If the in-lecture quizzes are done on Moodle or some other uni-based system, perhaps you could log on at the same time as the lecture and do them (unless they isolate access to uni wifi only).

yeah don't throw away that 10%

What is your problem stemming from? Is the time in between lectures the problem or just the 8am start.(live far from campus?)

could you be able to skip the FIT1045 lecture?

It might just have to stick it out, you could always use your break productively be it - socialising/relaxing or revising content

Yea it's the time between classes that is the major issue. I don't think I'd have nearly enough things to do for 7 hours each week inbetween classes and going back home during this break would also be a nuisance (since I must take a Monash shuttle bus that runs very infrequently). I could skip the following lecture I believe (I'd have to double-check that it doesn't have quizzes also), but after the first week I will be having another Maths support class after that so unfortunately that wouldn't work out. I'll be going to campus tomorrow so perhaps I'll be able to ask someone there.
