My assistant principal, whom has taught psychology for probs 15+ years and was a clinical psychologist, said that you're, and I quote, 'delusional' if you believe music helps you study. She mentioned a case she studied on about this but I forgot what it was called.
What we were told was to be very careful with music when preparing for final exams, because if you weren't used to working in the silence of exam conditions it might throw you off in the actual exam. Still sounds like good advice to me.
As for the rest, I listen to music far more at home than I did in VCE, but never at work. I know it distracts me sometimes, but I enjoy it - plus, if I don't listen to music then sometimes my mind helpfully fills in with random music that can be more distracting trying to figure out what is playing and why.
