Well, I completely agree with your point. That's why I decided that I want to switch out of Bio 1/2 and into Year 10 History, just for a taste because I'm not sure how I feel about it.

My school doesn't run 1/2 History, so that pressure part doesn't quite apply. For English, however, I have considered that but going into Psych 3/4 without the 1/2 would be harder for me than doing English 3/4. Adding on, I mentioned people from my school got offered Lit 3/4, despite it being more difficult according to most students. I don't see why that is.

I met a girl in an ATAR Notes lecture doing English 3/4 in Year 11. It's probably something that happens in some schools but not in others. She did the 1/2 in Year 11 (unlike my plan).

About the two 3/4's part, it is recommended to do four 3/4's in Year 12 for Uni Extension. That's what I'm aiming for (Uni Extension Literature). I'm also the type of person (as stated above) who likes more work initially and less afterwards. Doing five 3/4's in Year 12 seems more hectic, despite the experience gained from doing the 1/2. I'd rather get two subjects out of the way.

Hope that answers all your questions! Thanks for the luck because I will definitely need it and good luck to you as well!
Ok, as long as you can cope with it.
I wouldn't want to see someone break down because of the unforeseeable pressure. Since you like Literature, I would recommend History as well because people who do well in English usually do well in History :)
Thank you for the luck as well  ;)

Thank you!!! And HAHAHA naww, at least you're enjoying Maths
Also, I met a girl in one of the ATAR Notes lectures and she's doing accel English which is pretty rare but pretty cool

Thank you and good luck in Methods! We can both do it together except I'll be probs struggling while you ace it : ))

Also, I noticed you have five subjects in your signature. Are you planning on doing five altogether or undecided for your sixth one?

Haha thanks! Good luck to you as well!

In regards to my subjects, my school makes us do Religion in Year 11 (whyy) so I am doing that plus the 5 mentioned in my signature next year. I'm not entirely sure about year 12 yet, but at the moment I want to do UMEP Maths.

Interesting updates!!
Sorry to hear that you won't be able to do English in Year 11 as you initially wanted. It sounds like you had a fantastic consultation though and your teacher was able to get you on the right path. I think a humanities subject could be a great idea for you! Good luck with whatever you end up doing :)

I really admire your enthusiasm and love of math! Is there any reason that you're not keen on pursuing it further in university or as a career?
Disliking dissections will be a big hurdle to overcome for medicine. I'm sure I didn't need to point that out though. I feel like you might be a tad discontented with the course because it has a profound lack of math... study of psychology within medical schools is pretty understated too. What do you think?
Sometimes you make choices, and sometimes choices make you.

Haha, thank you! Yes, I've considered a lot of different options and to me, doing Eng 3/4 in Year 11 seemed less pressure than anything else.
That's true! I actually narrowed it down after seeing some of the sac's in our previous school, reading the actual exam and also the examiner's report. I'm still a bit unsure so I'll try Year 10 history and see how it goes.
How are your VCE subjects like?

That sounds gross! Sorry, don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone that enjoys it but religion being compulsory? I would literally change schools
Oh, since you like Maths so much I think that would be a great idea, I heard that it's a lot of fun and might even help you clear concepts in Spesh (some people have stated that, although someone who has actually experienced it first hand would let you know better)
Good luck!

Yes I did! Thank you!!! I never took any Humanities subject seriously (partially because I never had a good Humanities teacher in the first place throughout my high school life)

Hmm, I was thinking about it. Although I really do like Math, I think I prefer it in moderation. Whereas for Literature, it's kind of like leisure. Sometimes doing a lot of Maths feels like studying instead of enjoying whereas you can discuss poems and writings with your friends. I love communicating with others (I'm an extrovert so I literally start losing energy if I stay alone for too long) and I guess writing is a form in which you're basically talking to other people

Yeah, I'm not super excited for med. I think I just want to try it out and see how it goes. It definitely does, a lot of people say how Math and science are linked but they really aren't
That sounds about right. I'm pretty sure people finish med and then go towards other courses (as in to be a Psychiatrist, you need psychology)
If I really don't enjoy med, I think I might go towards something completely different like a teacher. I guess the future is far away so I will just have to wait to see what happens

2019年10月20日日曜日 - Update

I have been overall quite productive this week (always feels good to know you did a lot of work) aka
- Maths Chapters: Did almost all of the Maths chapters, partially because the teacher missed out on one chapter when she was writing it on the board
- Japanese Scripts: Basically, we have to write 5 scripts (more like essays), 2 weeks on each script. The first one is family, second one is school, third one is weekend, forth one is traveling and fifth one is future. It takes a lot of time, effort, creativity and motivation for each essay and if you know me, you know I lack all of these XD But I did write them in the end and the teacher said it was good (surprisingly) although I did dog my friends a little hehe like saying one of them wanted a Japanese boyfriend

Wednesday was a busy day. My friend and I were planning a surprise party for a really close friend, and my cousin so we ended up waddling for 2-3 hours just walking around from Collins St to MC. I even bought an Uncle Tetsu's cake for her (can you believe a tiny cake was $18).

I had a chem tutor info session. There were SOOO many people there and it was almost overwhelming about how many people are serious about this subject. There were some girls my current and old schools, respectively. They also have a ranking SAC-like structure apparently and that's what worries me. I'm so bad at science that I'm probs gonna stuff things up (I've also heard from MANY people that their 1/2 isn't good but their 3/4 is) and it's also 2 hours long on a subject I don't even like ahh

I'm meant to study French and Russian Revs but the Chinese one is soooo interesting. I was trying to find different Chinese characters to say empress (because there is a different one for queen and different one for empress...so confusing) so I stumbled across famous empresses in Chinese history like Wu Zetian and Zhangxian Mingsu Empress. I don't think they're in the VCAA study designs but it just goes to show how interesting history (a subject despised by many) is!

If anyone is studying French or Russian revolution, please tell me how interesting you find it! I'm just curious about other people's opinions

Macrob Fun Fact: While our school - contrary to what most people hear - isn't competitive, almost everyone (or everyone who does well) has a tutor(s). We had an unfortunate incident a few years ago, sort of brushing on this subject and I guess this is more of a sad fact than a fun fact for those with socioeconomic issues.

Also, if you aren't doing tutoring, don't get scared! Tutoring only does so much. Really, it's more about the way you approach the subject and the amount of time and effort you put into it. Tutors don't work for everyone either, so don't feel like you won't get a good study score without tutoring : ))

Haha it feels so good when you know you got stuff done. We had to do a similar thing for Italian except it was for oral conversation prep and we had to get really familiar with the sort of questions that they might ask in the VCE Oral Conversation assessment, so our topics were family, work, future aspirations, school and free time (pretty similar to you I guess.)

Yes, that satisfaction of being productive is the feeling I live for, it's sad that it takes a lot of motivation to start the work though
And thank you! I just wanted to make the journal stand out a little and I thought, since a lot of people are interested in the school, why not a fun fact at the end

Oh yeah that's exactly what it is except we don't get assessed until either next year or the year after (not too sure)
Woahh that's really similar but how did you do the work one (since most people in Year 10 don't have part time jobs I believe)

Thank you! I take birthdays really seriously so I put in a lot of effort to try and make it as perfect as possible. It was my first time doing a surprise thing for someone
Yes, once you go to the city you come out broke XD

Thank you!!! Luckily, chem 3/4 is Year 12 but I think that's the only subject I passionately despise. Sad that it's a prereq for most uni courses

If you don't like English then I think Englang is good. Well, I've heard a lot of contradictory things about Englang from diff people. Some people say if you're good at languages, do Englang. Some people say if you like Maths, do Englang. My Englang teacher said if you like science and humanities then do it

But I'm sure you will end up enjoying it anyways, good luck!

2019年10月24日木曜日 - Update

I have an application task for Methods tomorrow and I did not study AT ALL. It doesn't matter too much because it's just, if you attempt it, you get a pass and if you don't, then it's a fail. But we will still do it under exam conditions because my teacher wants to prepare us for next year.

I have been focusing less on Bio now that I know I won't do it next year but that worries me a bit. There's a Bio exam not so far away and I should motivate myself to study for it, even if I don't end up continuing (don't we all just want those good study habits).

For Japanese, I have been learning and testing my kanji. I realized I know a lot more than I did one or two months ago (well I didn't know what hiragana or kanji was before this year so I guess it's an improvement to be able to write and recognize around 150 kanji)

A bunch of my history books have arrived so I'm pretty happy about that. I can finally begin studying toward 3/4.

Going to school has been an absolute pain, especially today. The past two weeks, there have been bus replacements between Shrine of Remembrance and Toorak Road (two different tram - or as I like to say, "street car" - stops). Walking in the heat to and from school has been burning my body. WHY MELBOURNE!

Also, this is quite irrelevant but after today, my self esteem boosted up drastically. I thought I was 155cm the past few years but one friend was like "there's no way you're 155, you're 156". This was the tallest achievement I've ever received (okay I'm sorry I'll stop) but life sucks being short. I've been armrested by tall as mhs guys so many times that I've lost count

Sorry for the short (and pretty irrelevant) entries, my brain is fried and the heat isn't helping either. Not much has happened apart from the obvious stress but oh well, that's just life

Macrob Fun Fact: Macrob is a very LGBTQ+ friendly environment, or at least from what I've seen. I personally don't know too much about these kinds of things but I know a lot of people would be interested in it

Those study habits can really stick! I did the same for physics, I knew I was going to drop it after unit 1, but I ended up studying for it when I didn't need it..... Life if weird like that.
What made you choose history? And specifically that history? I do think the revolutions is the most interesting out of the bunch, I mean no offence to our own history, but it's just colonisation, a few interesting moments, and wars that we didn't do a whole bunch in I mean we had a war with emu's...... Ancient history does look cool, but if I did a humanities subject I might have done classical studies. I love mythology especial roman and greek.
Can't relate to the height problem.... For some reason I was always quite tall, and no one can really armrest me as I am 174cm ;)
It's great that Macrob is like that, it's nice to see!
Good luck with exams!

Oof, I know what it feels like to be short, I was always the shortest kid in primary school, especially since I was the youngest in my year level, and I was 4'11" at the start of year 7. I'm 5'10" now lol but it's weird, I still think of myself as a short sort of person. bit off topic there sorry.

That's nice to hear about Macrob. In my experience I think that girls' schools are generally better with that sort of thing that boys' schools.

Really? Thanks for the advice. I was really considering whether I should continue wasting time studying Bio or if I should start studying my next year subjects (particularly History 3/4)

Ancient history does look cool, but if I did a humanities subject I might have done classical studies. I love mythology especial roman and greek.

So the subjects that I narrowed down to were Psych, Global Politics, Philosophy and Rev. I think I've already said this a few times (sorry if I'm just repeating myself haha) but Psych seemed too sciency and I don't want to take a risk. Global Politics was interesting. It's a topic I really enjoy discussing with my friends. However, I had a look at the actual VCAA exams and I was like nah. Philosophy was basically the same.

For Rev, we have a really good teacher. I picked Rev out of all the History subjects because it's the only one (I believe) which runs at out school. Ancient History 3/4 is a possibility but it usually doesn't run due to a lack of interest. Classical studies sounds cool. I find mythology really interesting and creative as well

Ancient history is really interesting, particularly the Chinese dynasties, empresses and so on. I might've considered it if it had a higher chance of running.

Yeah, I think the acceptance is nice as well. Of course, it's not perfect but it is notably far better than other schools.

Also, thank you and good luck to you too! You will do amazing : ))

Quote

Ahh, it feels horrible. I know this is weird but one thing which helps me motivate myself to study is by cleaning my desk. But I need motivation for that too so...

Quote
Wow, great job! That's great considering you've only being doing it for a year!

Thank you! I feel like I haven't studied enough but I guess that's because I need to divide my time for other subjects as well

Hahaha, not off topic at all. I'm sooo jealous, when will my growth spurt come
Jk, that's awesome (and actually the biggest growth spurt I've ever heard of) but don't armrest the shorter people around you XD

Yes, for sure. I heard mhs has a bit of a homophobic environment (but I might be completely wrong)
I think it might be because a lot of guys say "that's gay" whereas the majority of girls I met are quite against that (of course there are guys against it and girls who do use it a lot, it's just more common that way)
Regardless, I'm still not too sure why the LGBTQ+ community is more accepted in girl's schools

Hey chopsticks!!
How do you plan to go about studying for your 3/4 subjects? Will you just read over the textbooks, or take notes and start answering questions? :)

Hey Laura!
Is this for Methods and History or just History? For Methods, I've already started since 1/2 is basically the same as 3/4. I'm not taking any notes, just doing questions. This might sound overly ambitious (but I can always change my mind), I'm thinking about not taking any bound reference to exam 2 next year. I want to know my content so well that I won't need notes. In saying that, I will probably write them but leave them on the day of the exam.

For Rev, since I'm not familiar with any kind of History subject AT ALL (I didn't even do History this year so I feel like I'm low key screwed). I think I'm gonna do everything you said but more so on the emphasis of reading and doing questions over taking notes. I want to understand the content first and then work towards the questions. I don't learn well without someone explaining concepts to me so I think note taking will be mostly a waste of time (I'll type up some things though)

What about you? How are you planning on tackling your 3/4 subjects?

Wow, are you sure you aren't my clone? I never write notes for maths as well, because I think that the time spent writing notes could be spent doing more questions and doing maths problems is more fun than writing notes. I always put some notes together the night before a test and never use them during the test. I would rather that I do more questions so that I know the content by heart than look at a book during the test. And if I want to look over topics for revision, I will just use the textbook.

For Rev, since I'm not familiar with any kind of History subject AT ALL (I didn't even do History this year so I feel like I'm low key screwed)
I'm doing year 10 history rn and I feel like the best way to go about history tests/exams is to get really familiar with the sort of questions which they ask on history tests, things like a Source Analysis, to what extent/evaluate questions and the like. It's not enough to just you know your info (dates, events, facts, etc.) you have to know how to apply that knowledge to answer the in-depth questions they ask. (lol just realised I'm not really the best person to be giving advice on this subject but whatever.) Good luck for Revs!
