how is everyones timetables looking, around ~60% of mine is already auto allocated and the rest are preferences. If I get all my 1st prefs I can finally get a day off+ one other day is only 1 lecture  ;D ;Dother three days are packed
Mine's looking pretty blank atm :P - I don't get my timetable until the Tuesday before week 1 (because my faculty doesn't let us have preferences </3). I'm hoping I have a 4 day timetable though, that'd be oh so much better than having 5 days and 2 of those are half-days imo. :)

Btw guys booklists are out for next year! Just go to my course on my.monash and click on the booklists button and you'll get all your prescribed and recommended books for sem 1, 2018 only.
I'm still only seeing my semester 2 stuff!

Like insanipi, I don't get my timetable until next year, but having a glance at the class timetable, looks like I'll have less contact hours than this year, and potentially Tuesdays off (well, technically there's online lectures, but nothing I have to be there for in person). Still have 8 and 9am starts though...don't seem to be able to escape them.

Does anyone know how accomodation scholarships work?
Is it deducted from your yearly rent, reducing the amount you have to pay each week? For example, if I have $10000 to pay for 50 weeks, so $200 a week and I recieve a $6000 accomodation scholarship, do they take it off my yearly rent, leaving me with $4000 for 50 weeks, so $80 a week. Or is it done differently. Also, I know most scholarships are payed in march, but are accomodation ones payed from when you start paying rent? If not can this be arranged?

Pretty sure you just get paid the flat amount of the scholarship? If it's a $6000 scholarship, you get paid $6000. Rent doesn't factor in at all. You get paid at the same time as all other scholarships. That's how my two housing scholarships that I received have worked.

Thanks for your reply, so in the case of my scholarship where it says "$6000 for on-campus accommodation at Monash Residential Services (MRS)"  would I get paid the $6000 or would it go straight to MRS to take off my rent, or would it be placed in my bank account for me to use on rent?

Hmmm, it might be different if it is specifically a MRS scholarship. For my housing scholarships it just went straight into my bank account but that might be because I wasn't living on-campus. If you want to check you'd probably be best off emailing Monash or posting in the Ask Monash University thread here. I would've thought it would clearly say on the offer letter if it was only to be used directly for rent though.

Thanks for all your help so far! Do you know when similar scholarships are payed? Will the money be available when I begin my stay at MRS, or will I have to wait until April like other scholarships?

Hi guys,

so I've decided I'm not in a financial position to live on campus BUT still very very excited to have received my offer today and looking very much forward to uni life.

So I guess a quick intro:
Campus: Clayton

Welcome to Monash!  ;D
There's definitely students that are able to manage a long travel distance (e.g. minimising the number of days they have to be at uni). If you come to O-week, you can also have a (no obligation) chat to some people about the different residential options, and what financial support is available.

I'm thinking I'll probably just complete a lot of study at the uni and time when I leave campus appropriately so I'm not waiting at Southern Cross. I'll also reevaluate and potentially move part way through the year. Who knows, maybe the time on public transport will be a good way to integrate daily reflection and actually be a benefit.
O-week sounds pretty hectic but I'll give it a go :)

What are you most looking forward to? :)

Short term, my course has a camp in February which will be great because:
a) I love nature and camping
b) I'll get to know all the other people in my course - and given that the course is for people who love science, leadership and are altruistic I'm sure they'll be great people (mainly at least)

Long term: the learning. Both the academic content and the leadership content
