Anytime :)
What I'm hoping to do is exactly like your plan: mark down all my mistakes in a book, along with the exam (company, year etc.) and question number along with a quick summary of why I got it wrong. Then I can write underneath (summary) how to get the correct answer.
Then, a week or so before the exam I'm going to redo all the questions I've gotten wrong and tighten up my answers.

I don't know what evernote is but it seems useful :)

Question:
I have my practice exam tomorrow and I need to understand plant hormones, could anyone summarise them for me?

Thank you

Wow so much posts afte 1 day. Plz biology give meh a break. plz tell me if I am wrong
.
few questions guys, are the following on the course:
1) knowing what wavelengths of light chlorophyll absorbs and essentially a focus on wavelength absorption and its implications (linked in with some other relevant topics, but more so just a focus on wavelengths) ? had a lot of this on the STAV 2013 unit 3/4 exam  and wasn't sure if it was a key point.

2) i manage to complete exams in like 75% of time the allotted, what is a good use of the time i have left over? checking answers or simply rethinking some questions? for example, i finished a reg unit 3/4 exam in like 1hr 30minutes (but i did have gaps in knowledge so couldn't be happy with all my responses)

3) is the 'plasmodesmata' on the course? came up in the 2013 STAV exam -.-
4) did i have to know the specific term 'transgenic organism' - again on a STAV exam :( it was the 'general name given to an organism that contains genes from another species' and i had never heard of that term prior :P

Plasmodesmata is just the junction between plant cells (i.e. Connects the cells). Never seen any qs on exam papers for that tho.
But is it an output of the light dependent stage or the light independent stage?
Pretty sure its not relevant but the 6H2O comes out at light independent stage

Thankyou soo much!! However as for the homeostasis bit, on the frequently asked questions (on the vcaa website) they said they took homeostasis out? Which explains why it wasn't in my sac either... Is this true?
Its not on the course. But the only things they will ask you is like neg/ pos feedback, so know those

Thank you
Ceebs writing anymore
Auxin- growth in shoots, inbihits growth in roots
Gibberellin- cell growth and elongation
Cytokinins- rapid cell replication
Abisic acid- inbihit growth
Ethylene- ripening

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the Out of Africa hypothesis and Regional Continuity hypothesis and the evidence that supports both. Questions that ask about it always confuse me so I was wondering if I could get some help.

brief summary:
Out of Africa (replacement theory) – Modern Humans evolved in Africa and then migrated out replacing Homo erectus populations at other places around the world.

Regional Development Theory (parallel evolution) – Homo erectus migrated out of Africa and at separate places around the world independently evolved (parallel evolved) into modern humans.

Does this sorta explain it?

EDIT: feq q's
1) the first and second line of defence are non specific, the third is specific- correct?
2) do we have to know the reasons on how each defence in the first line of defence works? i.e how intact skin works to block out pathogens, or is this something we should just know and understand logically.

1) correct :)
2) I'd generally say yes, you don't need to be very specific, your example is actually spot on!

Hello guys!

Can any of you guys draw and upload for me The enzyme denaturation and Inhibition like what VCE want to get the 3 marks in q3(d) on the 2015 BIO 3/4 vcaa paper? Would be so helpful.

Would VCAA examiners accept these definition of evolution:

Evolution: Gradual changes in the phenotype of a species over time

Or

Evolution: Refers to changes in the genetic composition of populations

Is any one better than the other?

i reckon the first one is better, but you're probs better off copying down a nice, definition verbatim to what the VCAA assessor stipulate in their reports :) or search ATAR notes for some notes here and there! :)

Hey Guys, I'm not sure how to revise for the Bio exam this year.

My teacher gave the tip of 'summarising your summarising', making mind maps of the notes I already have and summarising the topics.
Would it be more efficient to throughly revise over my notes rather than summarise or write them out again?

thanks

I would personally do practice exams, they will benefit you the best. Re-writing notes doesn't help you retain information or give you an indication of the kind of questions you'll be asked. Bio exams are quite application based :)

Company papers are usually quite expensive so best to see if your school has any that they've bought or source from your friends (usually people have folders full of them lying around on a Google drive/usb/etc)

I did bio last year, for me i rank the papers in this order:
VCAA (duh) > STAV / Neap > Lisachem / Insight
- Kilbaha = too hard and often beyond the scope of the VCE study design
- TSSM, TSFX, Engage = relatively easy (or just have really bad questions)

Can't remember which Lisachem or Neap paper it was, but some of their questions were relatively similar to what showed up on the exam last year which was a pleasant surprise for me.
STAV have nice diagrammatic questions and slightly more difficult SA questions which provide a good challenge and I'd say generally equates to the more difficult VCAA questions.

^^all my opinions so please take it with a grain of salt

:)
Mine
1) STAV
2) VCAA
3) Everything else

Can't think of any other companies but the above should help you
