Notation help

Hi guys I just need some clarification. What does this notation mean? { x : x3 + x2 − 5x + 3 ≤ 0 }=(−∞,−3]∪{1}. This is how the textbook lays out the answer. Is this how I should lay my answer out for inequality questions? thanks

That roughly reads:
The set of x values for which the value of [the polynomial] is less than or equal to zero are values less than or equal to negative 3, in union with 1.

You can probably get away with omitting the left hand side when writing out at answer like this (although be sure to specify what variable you are using e.g. x) :)
