The following is entitled: "Recommended program of study: Stage one program (all students)" for my course:
    *  FIT1001 Computer systems
    * FIT1002 Computer programming
    * FIT1008 Computer science
    * MTH1112 Numbers, logic and graphs or STA1010 Statistical methods for science
    * MTH1030** Techniques for modelling and MTH1020** Analysis of change or MTH2010** Multivariable calculus
    * a 12 point level one sequence in a science area of study other than mathematics

These are all the units in the  faculty of science: http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/2010handbooks/units/index-byfaculty-sci.html

... so does that really mean that I can't do any more maths, even though I don't have much/any interests in other areas of science? They've got stuff like atmosphere, biology, environments, chemistry and physics which is okay, I suppose, but I'd much rather stick to maths :(

Could anyone confirm this for me? Thanks.

Yeah, I'd imagine that they would be the case.

iirc, you are doing bachelor of science/compsci?

the stuff you have there is only 'recommmended'

I am assuming you got that info from http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/courses/3517.html

the only requirements are the ones listed under 'requirements' . everything after that is just recommendations. nowhere in the requirements does it say you have to do non maths units.

As it says at stage two:

Quote
12 points of science units to complete a minor sequence in an area of study other than mathematics or computer science
and
Quote
At the end of stage two, students should have completed two minor sequences (one in mathematics) and one in another science area not including computer science.

Thus you have to take something other than Mathematics.

the only requirements are the ones listed under 'requirements' . everything after that is just recommendations. nowhere in the requirements does it say you have to do non maths units.

Quote
Requirements:
#  a major sequence in a science area of study (48 points)
# a minor sequence in mathematics (24 points)

...
Stages three and four
# 24 points of science units to complete a major sequence in a science area of study, in either mathematics or the area of the minor sequence completed at stage two

If I am interpreting this correctly, this means non maths and non computer science units will have to be taken at some time to fulfill either a minor or major sequence.

Thanks zzdfa, Damo, Glockmeister :)
Mmm I better think about which other area of science I want to do, then. :\

^lol I have a feeling dekoyl's gone thru the whole monash handbook, multiple times.

but the obvious choice is physics, to bolster your mathematical intuition. plus, since you're ahead in your maths, you will have an easier time since people struggle with physics because they suck at maths or they suck at physics, you only have to worry about the latter!

Technically SCI1020 - Introduction to statistical reasoning doesn't fall under mathematics (I think!) http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/units/SCI1020.html

You might be able to get away with that.

Just do a couple of astro or physics courses in first year, then after that stick to interesting subjects.
