Any information would be deemed helpful!!! Thanks
Hi there,
I'm a first year student doing the Behavioural Neuroscience degree. I'll try answering each of your questions
-Is it possible to get job by directly finishing the course or would you have to specialise?
There is a somewhat of air that the academics teaching the course would want you to do research. Nonetheless, it is possible to get a job after finishing the degree, much in the same way you would be able to get a job after doing a BSc... although you would be better qualified in jobs that may relate to the brain.
-Does this course allow you to further your studies into a neurosurgeon?
Neurosurgery is a sub-speciality of surgery, which requires you to have a MBBS and further specialisation in surgery and then neurosurgery. You can however, once you get your degree, get into graduate-entry Medicine (such as the MBBS at Monash Gippsland, the BMBS at Deakin or the MD at Melbourne).
_Does anyone know wat career pathways are possible?
Depends what major you choose to get. If you choose to major in Psychology for example, you'll get the option to go on (potentially) to do Honours in Psychology and go on (with further training) to become a psychologist. If you choose some of the other majors (Pharmacology, Immunology, Physiology etc.), you may find yourself working for pharmaceutical companies, in hospitals working in laboratories, as research assistants in universities etc.
Also, it's a good degree to move onto doing the PhD, and becoming an academic. You also have the option for the graduate-entry degrees afterwards as well (e.g. Medicine)
Feel free to PM (or post here) if you have any other questions.
