TSFX or NEAP weekly tutoring?

Hi guys,

So I've signed up to do TSFX Master Classes for the first half of the year but my friend is doing Neap for semester two and I am thinking of doing the same.

Do any of you have experience with TSFX and/or Neap? If so, is it worth it?

This is probably extremely biased, but to be honest all TSFX care about is money, money, money.

I mean, from their headstart lectures they gave me about 8 different 'master classes' documents.

I also receive so many damn advertisement-emails from them. All they care about is money. Nothing else.

They see that there is a real market for VCE students who can't think for themselves, and thus will spend everyone of their parents cents because they feel the more they get submerged into the lectures the higher the atar will be. I promise you, they only want you there for the money. I'd say go with Neap

I second this.

Can't speak for NEAP because I've never been there, but from my experiences with TSFX masterclasses and revision classes all they care about is sucking all the money out of you.

Before making a decision I suggest doing half a year and see how it goes for you. Personally I find the classes helpful because my teacher sucks and goes through content really slowly so we always run out of time. So yeah, just do half a year and then you can form your own opinions about it

Yeah, I wouldn't considering half a year costs about $600. Trust people who have been there and done that.

Also, would you risk one unit of a 3/4 subject just to try something out?

Do neither. They're both an absolute rip off. Better burning your money really.

There are plenty of local companies that do the same sort of thing for a much better price.

Yeah but you wouldn't LOSE anything by doing a 3/4 subject at TSFX, I mean it doesnt harm you anyway lol, you might actually learn a thing or two while you're there. My point is it might be helpful for students who arent priviliged enough to have great, passionate teachers that teach the course properly and show you tips and expose you to more difficult questions that's likely to appear in exams. (my teacher just does questions from the textbook and thats it). For you it might not have been helpful since you already go to a great school and probably have supportive teachers there that aren't lazy. But for people that don't have teachers like that, TSFX has been extremely helpful in terms of exposing you to more difficult questions and getting an insight from actual VCAA exam markers on what to expect from the exams

idk just my opinion tho :)

You wouldn't lose anything per se by going to a bad tutor, but how many tutors for one subject are you likely to have? One. By subscribing to a bad service - with no alternatives - you are missing out on better, more economical opportunities to gain academic success.

I do agree that students who are not privileged enough to have good enough teachers are having an injustice done against them; yet TSFX or any tutoring company that charges disproportionately high fees and cares very little for their students (from my experiences) isn't the solution.

Also, please do not be mistaken that teachers at my school are great. They're just the same as any public school. That's far too big a generalisation - I've had my fair share of shitty teachers who couldn't care less about my academic success and TSFX certainly didn't fix that, lol.

If it helps you understand my situation, my chem teacher is teaching Year 12 for the first time this year.

Also, she taught Year 11 for the first time last year and I experienced the mess that it was so I was desperate for another alternative

(((I got the second highest rank in our class for the unit 2 exam and she said to me "Oh, I thought you would have failed!")))

It's really bad, I can't go to her for help or anything... Whenever we ask her questions she's got no clue how to answer them and referred me to my smart friend for help like she's my teacher it's so pathetic

But now you guys are really making me think twice...

Ok omg, who would you recommend?

I see that you received a stellar ATAR (well done!) -- did you have any tutors and if so who were they?

I know, they spam my inbox almost weekly, I should have taken it as a warning sign...
