Hello. I scored 45 in Further, and 50 in Health. My SACs for Further probably ranged between 80% and 100%, and for HHD from 90% to 100%. I can't really remember, though, because it's been a few years, and SAC scores are pretty irrelevant.

I personally enjoyed Health more and, subsequently, personally spent longer on it. I know from previous posts that you're trying to decide between the two at the moment, but I don't really think that popular opinion should be a significant driving force behind your decision.

What's your gut feeling right now? Because I'd trust that more than somebody else's scores and preferences. Best of luck with your choice. :)

Hi thanks.
Yeah I don't wanna base my decision off other people, however, I would like to do the subject that I think would score better in..
I'am equally interested in the content associated with both subjects. Everyone has said so far how enjoyable health was and how they put more effort into it because of the enjoyment. When looking over exams etc, I too, also found it quite interesting. So not sure if I should pick it now over Further. I've heart that, because of the fierce competition in Further, it is easier to get a lower study score as well.

I got a 50 for further but I put a hell of a lot of work in (I was in year 11)!

Further is incredibly competitive (effectively, every mark lost on the exam is one study score down), and to be honest I didn't find the content in further to be overly exciting or interesting. I mainly just did further because a) I wanted to do a 3/4 subject early and b) I'm strong at maths (so this seemed like a good idea).

For further, I feel like it's not too difficult to grasp the content but it's tricky to stop yourself from making careless mistakes.

I don't know if any of this helped, but be sure to pick whichever subject that you think you will like the most :)

(I made a post about my further experience last year - link is in my signature) :D

Thanks!
I had a read through your post. I guess the only thing that is holding me back from Further is the fierce competition and how easy it is to get a crapper than expected score.

Yes - but scaling shouldn't be a primary factor when deciding subjects. Your focus should be on:

1. Interests (what am I going to do well in?)
2. Pre-requisites (what do I potentially need to get into my preferred university courses?)

Thanks. Did u work extremely hard for that score. Would u say hard work "guarantees" a 40+ in further

Definitely, i would say that by hard work you mean getting exposed to questions that may appear in the exam, as the content of further is extremely easy.
2015 - Further Maths

2016 - English, Methods, Specialist, Physics, Chemistry.

Aims: To succeed, nothing more, nothing less.

Let me make this clear. The unfortunate thing about VCE (and exams in general) is that no matter how much hard work you put in, there's never going to be a guarantee that you're going to get a great score - but that said, hard work will increase your chances astronomically.

To answer your question though, no. I didn't work very hard at all, and I don't think if I had have worked harder that my score would have been any better or worse. I did Methods as well as Further, and consider myself to be a Maths kind of person. As a result, I often would neglect Further (except for practice SACs when one was approaching). To put things in perspective though, whilst I did very little for Further, I ended up putting in a heck of a lot more work into Methods for a significantly lower raw score (45 compared to 36).

Because you're fighting against the state, no quantifiable amount of time will guarantee you a 40+ in any subject, but don't let that discourage you - every question counts. Provided that you're smart about how you revise (be honest with yourself, and acknowledge and target the areas that you're not confident in), then I'm very confident that you will achieve any score that you want.

Do your best to expose yourself to as many questions as possible, study efficiently and effectively when you can, and enjoy the adventure that is VCE and I'm sure you'll do fantastically!

Best of luck - feel free to PM me any questions.

Is the one mark loss on exam = equal one down on study score actually true?

I think so! But you can still get a 50 if you lose one mark :) (but I think if you lose 2 you get a 49 etc...)

depends on the difficulty of the exam.
This was not the case for last year (coz the exam was really easy)

I'd also like to point out that losing a mark is actually harder than it seems in further.
Further is a really easy subject - like they're really limited in what they can ask you. There are no hard questions.
There are trick questions - but no hard questions. They're extremely restricted by the study design.

So the whole "oh you lose a mark lose a study score" seems really daunting but if you look at the exam it's actually not hard to get near full marks GIVEN THAT YOU HAVE WORKED HARD CONSISTENTLY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR I MUST EMPHASISE THIS.

But don't be discouraged by the "1 mark = 1 study score" thing.

Coz its actually not that hard.

LOL I DONT HAVE A PROBLEM
Damn why does every scenario escalate on this forum. He was right to modify it the stuff wasn't required. I added it in for some entertainment to spice up vce. And my response was also a joke. I used a cake analogy like cmon.

Don't take my comments seriously.
<3 Aaron
Edit: Changed pie to cake and need to mention that my comments about vce are very serious and you should take them into consideration (may not be correct but thats up to you to decide) but the jokes on the sides take lightly ;)

Perf. Just more interested in making sure that the post stays relevant tbh and that everyone knows it's all happy families so thanks

So back on topic,

I didn't do Further or HHD. A hard-working student will quite easily score highly in either one of these subjects, though they'd also have to bear in mind that there are plenty of other hardworking students who have the same idea and that means competition.
