I've done the JMSS entrance exam in 2016 and attending JMSS. I don't remember much but I think it is important to have a go at as many questions as possible in 30 minutes.
For multiple choice ones, if you cannot answer a question immediately just skip to next question and attept other easier ones first and then do the time consuming ones. At the end, right before the teacher tell you to put your pen down, just guess any random answer for question you couldn't answer. You would get at least one of them right.
If you've done some practice exams you will be able to do it. The one I remember clearly is that for the science writing, there were two of them and one of them was about writing a scientific report. I think it is worth knowing basic thing about procedure, result, conclusion etc. It is okay if you don't know (I didn't know about them and still got in). The other science writing was just reading an article and kinda summarising it (the article was about coral bleaching).
You don't need to get 100%. Even myself with bad english got in. If someone's worrying about their English or doing EAL, you don't really need to worry about it.
Hope this helps! Good luck everyone for their entrance exam:D
just wondering, what are the interviews like?

With the science essays how much do think would be a standard length of text would get you into the school.
and is it persuasive writing or just like source analysis/infographic text.

Tomorrow is the day that we have been preparing for. If you have been procrastrinating all this time that's okay, but if you work hard during the exam that's all that matters. Think smart and swiftly. Check your work and most importantly, be confident throughout the process. If you are stressed trick yourself into thinking, YOU are the most ready candidate. Come on guys, let's do this!

I just did the test!
I did better than I expected in the math parts but not good in the science parts
There are two science writing piece
The two writing topics this year are:
- one is to write a report about the VOCs
- one is to write a prac report about an experiment
Tip for math :
Be quick. If you don't know the answer skip it or guess it.

Good job to everyone who did the test!

Exam was pretty good only struggled with numerical reasoning like I expected. I wish I could have edited my essays more though :/

The multiple choice questions weren't too bad, but the essays were stressful haha, I won't be surprised if I ended up with an average for them. Because of the time constraint you kind of just had to write and write, without a chance to reread.

It was much easier than I thought!

There were barely any quadratics q's. Ughhh all that study for nothing.

Anyways, how do you all think u went?

I hope we all make it in. The number of people made me nervous tho.

No quadratics ikr!!! Just so many worded problems and algebra. And a lot of number patterns for numerical I spent too much time looking at. Also what did you write about VOCs?

I have no idea what VOCs are. So I just summarise the information they gave us and add my knowledge about climate change and o zone layer

I think the row next to me was surnames starting with ‘N’ and I think there were about 8 Nguyen’s trying out.

Lololol

Same, the VOC writing one is the one I'm most unconfident about. I also had to stop halfway through my concluding sentence.

I JUST DID THE TEST
Hardest to easiest:
Science reasoning
Science prac
Science essay
Maths
Numerical
There were no questions in the science reasoning that i studied for.. all my science knowledge didn’t help..
For the prac, I ran out of time and couldn’t write how the experiment could be improved..
Maths was easy tbh way easier than selective entry. All we needed was a strong knowledge in year 9 concept.
HOW DID U GUYS GO??
