Software Development For 2022

Hey you,

So I have chosen to complete Software Development as a year 11 in 2022. I enjoy coding and have done basic programming and stuff throughout year 7-10. I have done some of html, CSS, python and javascript all in which I dont remember too much of it now.

My school has chosen to teach in VB.net (Visual Basic) - through visual studio. I didnt get many notes/theory/things to do for a headstart. I also havent done 1/2 Applied Computing so I dont specifically know what is expected.

With VB.net in mind, is there any work/pre-reading that I could do to essentially catch up to where all of the year 12s are at? Or any help of tips with Software Development at all?

Thanks, enjoy your holidays!

VB is easy if you got exp. i was in the same position (skipped 1/2, no idea for 3/4). coding will be SUPER easy for you, so worry about the theory stuff

learn the PSM, efficiency and effectiveness, FR/NFR and you will have a strong base.

I would suggest looking into the Nelson and Adrian Jansen books because they help a lot with theory. Majority of Sofdev's course and exam consists of a good grasp on the theory, so it's super important you refine that from the start if you want high marks. Trying to revise your knowledge by the end of the year isn't an effective strategy (I did that and only got a 36). Maybe even skim over an exam before school starts to see what they expect from you.

That being said, coding is still pretty important and you have to complete a program to pass. You seem to know a decent bit of coding, just make sure not to choose a project way beyond your skill level and manage your time properly. Make sure to look into previous exams after you finish the course content because there are a lot of common question types and getting used to them helps a lot. Finally you should probably join VCE discord if you haven't. Good luck dude!

First of all thanks so much! Yeah, ive looked into some of the past exams already. I will hopefully be revising all of my subjects throughout the year so that it doesnt get all rushed and is more effective.

With the Nelson and Adrian Janson textbooks, do you happen to know of any online versions I could possibly look through?

Thanks for the suggestion. I am so glad I found your post. I am searching for the important link online through which I can hire an essay writer online. When I was looking for it online, I found your post as well.
