I have no idea what to do for the SAT. I need a few ideas before I start for the year, but I've no clue what previous students have made as a reference. Any current student's ideas, as well as any examples of past students' projects would be greatly appreciated, cheers

Yeah I struggled finding a SAT idea too, but I ended up doing an Inventory System for my client which was a company.
My teacher handed me a document of some SAC ideas, I'll just post what he wrote.
Some SAT ideas
In case you need some extra suggestions, here are ideas we (staff and students or from PD days) have come up with so far:
A mother who runs a café and shoves all her receipts into a drawer and then has to process them all for her BAS
A roster for navy cadets
A mother who runs Family Day Care and needs to track the hours and charge for each child
Basketball competition stats recorder – to output a ladder in a format to be uploaded into the website Music collection (yours or a friend's)
Friendship circle
Something to help Student Council organise events Small business customers or sales
Personal/Family Inventory e.g. hobbies, clothing (even theatre costumes), household possessions (eg for insurance), family share portfolio, heirlooms (items that have belonged to ancestors)
Business Inventory (plant nursery, used car yard, craft supplies) - my one
Farm machinery maintenance (or School’s computer hardware…)
Sports teams or athletes (your own, the school teams, etc)
Golf handicap system
Address book for family or friends
Crop planting records Budgie breeding (or any other animal)
Some More SAT ideas
Some of these are ideas, while others are existing products already. Some may be achievable while others are too large to develop within the timeframe. Use these ideas to kickstart your imagination and idea search.
* Fire ready app (Victoria), which maps & lists nearby fires, trucks attending, status. Draws in Google map data, and accesses a database of fire situations in real-time. (This is an existing example)
* Women-only taxi service booking site eg abc news article Database, map (This is an existing example)
* Palm oil app link Identify products which are made with palm oil. Database w search (existing example)
* Price comparison app. Scan and compare prices, or compare gas/elect/water services. Accesses a database, with search function based on your selected features. (an existing example)
* Barcode → nutritional info of products. Requires scanning ability, access database. (an existing example)
* Landscaping app (for outdoor gardeners, painters, builders) that pulls weather data from the BOM Bureau of Meteorology’s RSS feed into a calendar, to aid decision about which days to schedule outdoor work.
* Organisational needs in school, students/teachers/admin. Eg. Homework scheduling, meetings...
* Track driving hours for P platers - start/stop times, map, weather. Would require a database, map data, optionally access the BOM RSS feed.
* Sports club (events, reminders, fees, score tables etc). Database w search
* Plant nursery app - enter type of plant, is it best in sun/shade/both… other care instructions etc to help people new to gardening to get the best from their plants. Database w search
* Café which wants to take online orders
* Data analysis / visualisation of large amounts of aggregate data. Database, PHP to create visual graphs etc
* Booking system for borrowing multimedia equipment
* Someone who runs a home business, shoves receipts into a drawer, then has to process them for tax
* A Family Day Care home business that needs to track the hours and charge for each child
* Basketball competition stats recorder – to output a ladder in a format to be uploaded into the website
* Something to help Student Council organise events
* Small business customers or sales
* Inventory of theatre costumes
* Daily Organization
* Daily Org
* Invoice System
* Notify Parents of Absence
* Flexi time - hours and pay
* Quotation system - paint house, tree removal,
* Stock Control - in\out
* Sports equipment loans
* Running stats – recorded their race times for different distances and downloaded world records.
* Sailing spots – downloaded BOM data and ranked the best places to go sailing.
* A point tracker system for the school cadet unit (could be adapted for any club/sporting activity)
* A wine database looking at best drinking dates/food matching
* A fustal ladder
* Homework/assignment scheduler
* An exo-planet info page – downloaded certain info about the planet selected and displayed it picture scaled in relation to Earth
* Holiday bucket list

Thanks for that list. I guess it can be pretty much anything that involves a GUI, modules of code and a DB.

My advice for the SAT is pick something relatively simple. I choose to make a game in visual studio code using c#. Biggest mistake of my life. Took way too much effort. I had to connect multiple computers at once to play the game. This made beta testing difficult as I had to organise a group of people to test it together. If you're interested the game was called Avalon the resistance. So make sure whatever you decide to do is within your scope. Don't overdo it. You don't get extra marks for creating a good solution. You get marks for making a solution.

Thanks for that Lucas. What about the data collection and first two criteria? What data do people typically collect exactly?

Thanks for that Lucas. What about the data collection and first two criteria? What data do people typically collect exactly?
Criteria 1 is your project management task. You demonstrate how you are going to manage your project over time. We used a gantt chart (using ms project) and pretty much listed tasks we were supposed to do for completing the solution. They are sublisted into dif criterias. The criterias should abide to the PSM in order.
(https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/358502382910570497/542003284341424148/unknown.png) example here. (It is continued until criteria 8)
Then criteria 2 is your data collection tools. Typically here you are meant to create context diagram, dfd and ucd of the existing system a client has. Then you ask questions regarding the clients existing system so you can gather that information to improve it in the updated system that you will make. I used 4 data collection tools: survey, interview, observation, and document/records
I'll give an example of each:
Interview: (to director of company)
Do you see any flaws within the system that you currently have?
Who is notified when inventory levels sink below threshold levels?
Survey: (To users that have access to database system)
On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the usability of the current system?
On a scale of 1-10, How well does this current system function?
Observations:
Usability of the program
Security Features of the designated program
Documents and Records:
Last financial report – 2017 Stock Report
Yeah lol, that's pretty much it.
P.s Excuse how I type, it's not an eloquent english

Interesting, I wasn't aware of the prominence of database use in the requirements for the SAT. Seems like SoftDev is ultimately a lot more similar to Informatics than I thought. A lot of these suggestions seem like just making a DBMS, or making simple calculations using data from a DB, which I can't help but feel won't be such an interesting time! But I'm sure there's breathing room within that space.

There's nothing about databases in the study design. The closest thing you will get is XML which is covered in the exam. There's no requirements to learn databases though such as MYSQL, MSAccess etc..
