Title: Food Studies and Biology SS
Post by: EmmaAnne986 on May 13, 2020, 02:26:17 pm
Hi I'm Emma,

I'm in year 11 and I am currently doing both Biology and Food Studies 3 and 4. I have just received my feedback for Food Studies Outcome One, and have overall received a 90.5%. Is this a good result? I really want to get a study score of 40+ for Food Studies as I really enjoy it and believe its possible. Has this 90.5% set me back at all in achieving this goal or is it good?

With my Biology I am also quite nervous as last year I was getting perfect or almost perfect for my Biology SACs, not to sound snotty, but no they have dropped to about 78% for an average in each SAC. I haven't received my marks for Outcome One yet I'm just nervous and I really want to get something about 30 for Biology. Is this still possible?

Thanks so much, hope this post also helps others :)

For any subject, it's really all about your rank. Are you rank one in your cohort?

SACs get moderated to make it an even playing field. Your SACs may be harder than other schools, so in tern you may score lower now, but in the end get a great score.

With a 90% for food studies unit 3 you are in a great position for over 40+. Since food studies values SACs more than the exam, this is great. Just make sure you do well on your exam and you'll be fine to get over 40+.

Same for biology, 78% should still get you a thirty, but once again it comes down to your ranking against your cohort.
Overall, you should get the scores you want, just keep trying to aim higher in unit 4 and the exam to be on the even safer side :)

Thank you, that helped heaps!!

For Food Studies, I am ranked first right now which I'm very happy about and for Biology I am ranked third or fourth. Is that good? I'm really nervous about everything, but confident I can achieve if I keep trying hard.

Those ranks are very good in any cohort! Would you say your cohorts are strong (lots getting 40+'s in previous years)?

In terms of scores, I think your aims are very possible. For food studies, you will need to be in the top 9% to get a 40 raw, however, for a 30 in bio you only need to be in the top 50% which is very doable even if you aren't the best and just put in some work
