1 km = 10^3 m
Square both sides:
1 km^2 = 1000000 m^2
(10^3)^2 = 10^6 m^2
Therefore 27100 km^2 = 2.71x10^10 m^2
(Apologies if this is too brief, I'm not the best at explaining maths :) )
