AMC HELP

Hey! Is this VCE related? It's the Australian Mathematics Competition! 8)

This year, I'll be doing the intermediate division paper. What are the 'requirements' for getting a HD? By this, I mean how many 5/4/3/2/1 mark questions I should be getting right? I know this differs every year, because division performance obviously varies, but just an approximation would be fine.  :)

More importantly, besides doing past AMC papers, what other methods of improvement would be recommended?

Any response is much appreciated!

Do a load of practise papers. (found free here: http://ec-web.elthamcollege.vic.edu.au/snrlibrary/resources/subjects/maths/PastComps/maths.htm )
Also, if you wan't to go really overboard, try again get to level 3ish on MathFights.com - it was designed for people studying for the US equivalent of the AMC and is pretty fun :)
When you get questions wrong on the past papers (which is inevitable unless you're one of those AN gods [thushan, brightsky, lzxnl etc.]) make sure you fully understand what you got wrong.
Also, we're doing the same paper so I'd be happy to study together :)

Given that only 0-2 students in VIC across all three divisions get perfect scores every year, I can safely assure you that even the AN gods will lose marks in the AMC (it is almost unheard of in the senior division in Australia, let alone just VIC).

Mathsfights is a great site, it's fun and interactive so you can't go wrong there. Note that a few questions are pretty flawed but all in all, it's amazing. You don't have to make Div 1 to get a HD, I get HDs/Prizes but i'm stuck on Div 2.

You don't have to get all worked up about the AMC, it'll have little/no bearing on how well you perform in VCE.

I know it's too late for preparing for this year's comp (hope you got that HD or better!), but I do maths tutoring and have worked extensively on past AMC papers with my students

For anyone preparing for Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), go directly purchase AMC study book and past year papers (with either full solutions or answer keys) at amtt.com.au. If you are only after free stuff, you can look for websites that may allow you to download AMC papers and practice AMC sample questions for free, there are a few of them on the internet, e.g. aameperth.com.au.
Please consider the date that this post was created. Any opinion is greatly appreciated, but should not be commended under a very old thread as it may be viewed as necro-bumping.
