I'm doing social pressures facing Japanese youth - with a focus on 引きこもり and 不登校. I'm hoping there's enough detail and I'll be able to make strong comparisons between the issues relative to Australian and Japanese school systems, respectively.
What are you considering for you detailed study?

Both topics are really cool! Cool as in interesting to look into though, because of the severe social anxiety and agoraphobia and all that.
The most important parts of the subculture are their perspectives imo, and here are some articles on that that you might be interested in, note that the Japanese is sort of complicated.

This is a comprehensive one, it's like an archive of the psychological structure of 引きこもり:

I really like how you intend to contrast the Australian school system with the Japanese one. Ostracism and bullying is definitely a different beast in Asia compared to Australia (firsthand experience).
