Why wouldn't they count?

If my textbook can count, can I take it into my exam to do my basic arithmetic for me?

Has there been a slight misunderstanding here? :P

Is it not the friendship between humans and textbooks the true first step towards World Peace?

If it is, am I not correct in saying that we will have to wait a very long time for world peace?

But is world peace ever attainable, or as power-hungry human beings are we forever doomed to war?

World peace can never be attained by humans whose hearts find delight in killing every living thing, correct? Therefore must we assume that unless all killing stops, world peace can never be attained?

(PS I'm loving how philosophical this is getting!!!)

Why is there an assumption that peace does not involve killing?

Killing trees and animals is perfectly acceptable, wouldnt you say? Isn't it when it becomes in excess that suddenly world peace stops becoming attainable?

Perhaps trees, but much less acceptable to kill animals - aren't humans animals? With killing there cannot be peace, no? Unless killing is peaceful? And how could that be so?
Besides, leading on from Heidi's point, can world peace ever be attained? Or is human nature itself the cause of the absence of world peace?

But according to Darwinian evolutionary theory, doesn't the act of humans killing animals increase the evolutionary fitness of humans above that of animals and therefore secure the role of mankind humankind as the dominant species?

But - and not specifically referring to the killing of animals - is it ethical to use the theory of evolution and natural selection to guide our society's behaviours?

Haven't you considered that the sacrifice of ethics is essential to the advancement of our society?

Didn't Frankenstein take a piss at every ethical principle possible and was therefore able to breakthrough the technological limits us humans have placed upon ourselves? Although fictional, should we not follow his prime example in order to finally advance by leaps and bounds as a society in order to prepare for an imminent alien attack?

Didn't Frankenstein end with the destruction of both the human who instigated the progress and the creation he was so proud of? Clearly, there is only one way to fend off an alien invasion.

haha, I love ASDF movies, you? ;D Also, on the note on aliens, who's heard of the Mars One mission? What are your opinions of it?

Does admitting I love ASDF movies make me a less cool? Actually, either way, yes I love them  ;)

I have heard of Mars One, and to be honest, I don't see a private entrepreneurial effort being the thing that gets us there. I would LOVE to see it happen in my lifetime, but for some reason I don't think this particular mission will be the successful one. I think instead it will teach us a lot of lessons that can assist a more coordinated effort later on  ;D

What do you think?
