Hi,
This is the question from Hong Kong.
As my son will take the "ACER Level 2 Scholarship and Select Entry Tests (For entering Year 9 or 10) on coming March, the test will do at Hongkong.  It should test Math/Science, Reading Comprehension, Writing essay.
However, we don't have any ideas about the test. Actually, we would like to do some sample exercises, but it is not easy to find, as most practise books are for Level 1 (For entering Year 7/8) only.
Please, do anyone have any ideas about this test (Level 2) or where can I buy the exercises, or any web-sites ?
Can we use the past paper of ICAS (year 9) for practising ?
Thank you so much for your words in advance.

Hi Renee,

I don't know much about the ACER Select Schools Entry Test, but I can direct you to some resources. (Click on the blue underlined words to visit them.) Please be aware that ATARNotes is an Australian website, so these resources may not work in Hong Kong.

- ACER's Scholarship Test Structure - The part on the right says how the test is run and what could be tested. From here, I get the following information:
Information from ACER

Secondary level tests
(entry into Years 7 to 12 – Levels 1, 2 and 3)

There are a maximum of four separate sub-tests administered.

Test 1: Written Expression (extended response, 25 minutes)

Two topics for writing will be set to allow students to use different styles of writing. They are presented as two separate tests (one in Test 1 and one in Test 4). This test is concerned with the student’s ability to express thoughts and ideas in writing.

Test 2: Humanities – Comprehension and Interpretation (multiple choice, 40 minutes)

This test asks students to answer questions related to written and visual material. The material may be drawn from subject areas such as English, Art, History, Geography and Social Studies. No specialist knowledge in these areas is assumed – – all the information needed will be provided. Students are required to think critically and make judgements about different types of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, cartoons, diagrams and maps.

Test 3: Mathematics (multiple choice, 40 minutes)

This test attempts to measure mathematical and scientific abilities rather than school achievement in these areas. The material used for the questions is selected from a wide variety of sources, and may differ from standard school-based curriculum materials.

Test 4: Written Expression (extended response, 25 minutes)

Two topics for writing will be set to allow students to use different styles of writing. They are presented as two separate tests (one in Test 1 and one in Test 4). This test is concerned with the student’s ability to express thoughts and ideas in writing.

The actual time at which the first test starts can be determined by the school. A break should be allowed between Tests 2 and 3.

- We can direct you around this board to get a vague idea of Australian Year 9/ 10 select school entry tests (that may or may not be ACER, as I have no idea) and how they studied, such as this post, this post and this post.
Can we use the past paper of ICAS (year 9) for practising ?
Probably. Honestly, I have no idea.
