Can't Decide? Tutor Reviews Please

I am sure most people wouldn't have a clue which tutor to pick. I guess this would be a good thread for those who have had good experiences with a tutor they found on VCE notes (or elsewhere) which you could suggest.

Details of what study score you got for the particular subjects and how much you think the tutor has contributied to your study score.

Thanks!

I'm not sure why no one has replied.
I think the most important thing that if you're unsure, get out there and ask all tutors what they provide, how their sessions are run, how they can help you etc. This will help you narrow down to a few that you may be interested in. It may help to have others tell you how great a tutor may be, but in the end, it's up to you and how well you and that particular tutor work together to maximise your potential :)

+1.  Also, if they say they provide notes, ask if you can read a sample of the notes.  If they suit you, then that's a start.  Some private tutors also offer a free class so look out for those if you want to see if they can communicate effectively.

I went to Jacks' classes for Chem and they were really helpfull. Even though it was in a class situation, I still felt like I could ask questions whenever I wanted to, and I did.

for physics, definitely get Mr Geoff Davies. he's the assistant chief assessor or something, and he teaches at mgs and lectures for tsfx during holidays. (he does private tutoring i think)

for chemistry, see if you can get into the class of Mr Byron Jones at tsfx - a past member of staff at mgs and he probably knows more stuff than 99% of teachers in the state (he teaches a couple of the weekly classes at tsfx)
2008: Chinese [45], Mathematical Methods [44]
2009: ESL [50], Specialist Mathematics [48], Chemistry [47], Physics [44], Economics [49]

Yeah, Geoff Davies is a good teacher, his TSFX lecture was pretty good.

I went to jack for chem/phys/methods/spesh and I owe my enter score to that guy. The notes are completely worth it. My textbooks were pretty much good as new when I sold them, simply because I didnt use them, due to jacks notes

Soz if this is a dumb question, but is there any special requirement to get into TSFX? And are they just lectures, or are they actually one-to-one tutoring or classroom tutoring? Also, how much for each term/semester/year?

Any recommendations for English (i.e. not EL or Lit) tutors? Cheers.

TSFX has mass lectures at UoM at the start of the year, and before exams. Otherwise there is classroom tutoring during the year. Lecture cost depends on the subject, but I think they're around 100 per subject...? And classroom tutoring costs about 600 dollars per subject per 10 week session.

The only requirement is that you have money.

Agreed. I ended up doing well in Physics, and all I did was go to one TSFX lecture, which I wouldn't recommend anyway.

lol Geoff Davies was my Physics teacher this year and I didn't even pay attention in class.

But I will concede that he does a good job of producing an engaging class atmosphere - he can come up with heaps of real-life applications for any physics concept. Most of the time our class had Mr. Davies talking about random, barely related physics stuff, as he can answer practically any question to do with Physics. Fun times.

Also he is the type of teacher you can relax around - one student in my class continually called him bald  :P and Mr. Davies just laughed it off.

A very interesting guy  :)
