Rounding answers to....???

Hi I was wondering if anybody could provide clarification on how we should be rounding the answers we give. My teacher told me to match my answer with the minimum amount of significant figures of the given values, however the exam reports often don't give the answers in this way.

Is it even important to stress about this for every question? Or will examiners only look for how well we can round on questions that specifically ask us to do so, like the practical physics questions?

Posting my answer to a similar question asked.

As far as I understand they no longer take off marks really for sig figs. Rule of thumb to work with around 4, and quote to a reasonable amount, generally 2 to 4. There was one question last year where they /specified/ a specific number of sign figs, in which case you obviously had to follow that precisely.

Best of luck for the exam.

If the minimum sig figures in the question is 3 (eg 1.45m) then the final answer should be to 3 sig figs. I’ve also noticed that contradiction in exam reports but I’ve also heard that examiners won’t take marks off for sig figs anymore unless the question specifies it or it’s inappropriate. I wouldn’t worry about it tbh.
