Hi Guys,

For the VCE Physics Exam, when a question asks you to find the average emf, do we have to put a negative in front?

Thanks

I shouldn’t think so. The negative sign is due to Lenz’s law, specifying a direction. I’d assume VCAA would ask for the magnitude of induced EMF, or ask you to specify the direction separately.

Thanks. Also, do you know if for every question if we have to give the answer to the correct number of significant figures?

As far as I understand they no longer take off marks really for sig figs. Rule of thumb to work with around 4, and quite to a reasonable amount, generally 2 to 4. There was one question last year where they /specified/ a specific number of sign figs, in which case you obviously had to follow that precisely.

Best of luck for the exam.
