I found the macro stuff way more interesting. I actually really liked economics by the end of year 12, and found it kind of neutral at the start of year 11.

ZOMG. ECONOMICS IS FTFW. PEOPLE WHO DONT DO ECON CAN GTFO. K?

Srsly speaking though, Economics allows you to learn a breadth about how we allocate earth's scarce resources with our needs and wants. For example, if your boss gave you a pay rise of 3% or you earn an interest rate of 5% p/a, really you aren't getting any "promotion" because the inflation (CPI) rate is usually around 3%. For the investment, the really interest you are earning is 2% p.a.

See?

Economics is a big subject, but it can all be linked back to the problem that we all have an unlimited amount of needs and wants but we only have access of a finite amount of resources with which we can fulfill those needs and wants. Economics, at the most basic level, looks at how the resources can be best allocated to satisfy the greatest amount of needs and wants.

Last year I kind of hated the subject because I had a teacher who was basically learning as we went. This year my teacher is not the greatest but she has really tried to make economics fun, has done a lot of research, using the schools resources for our benefits etc to try and help us. And for once we are now having discussions about what is going on around us and how it relates to economics.

So yeh I guess I like it although I'm hoping to learn some new stuff soon. What we have done so far is basically all from last year or I have read up through links on FSN (VN) or just read the debates that go on on here about economics. This site helps a lot!

The fundamental principle of economics, as mentioned above, is scarcity. Because of scarcity, trade-offs are required. These trade-offs are analysed in terms of supply and demand.

Economics basically teaches us that trade is good for both the parties involved, as long as it is voluntary. Trade-offs help to maximise the use of resources.

I found it pretty fun last year, mainly because my teacher was great... I don't really like my teacher for this year... she makes it pretty boring I reckon but overall it's an alright subject with lots of reading of the textbook I suppose =) But yea I pity the people who haven't done unit 1/2 economics... it must be very confusing...

Suicide-job.

You are getting confused with accountants.

Economists typically enjoy their job - it is a profession that lures geeks. Even typical economics students love to add economic lingo into their day-to-day lives. The analysis of the world with economics is very insightful - it is like wearing X-ray glasses. As Tim Harford, writer of The Undercover Economist, put it: economists come across as a bunch of perverts.
