Effects of a magnetic field on a cathode ray

Hi all,

Does anybody know the effect of the a magnetic field on a cathode ray is? I have attached a picture of the 'effect'

Hello! The bending effect you see is due to the interaction between the moving electrons which make up the cathode ray, and the magnetic field. The moving electrons produce their own magnetic field, which interacts with the applied field to result in a force on the electron. This force acts perpendicular to the motion of the electrons, which causes their path to bend as you see in the image ;D
