Welcome!!

Most of the time when I update my journal it’s because I’m procrastinating too haha

Quote
I'm feeling okay about my SAC (that's also kind of worrying- does anyone else always feel as if they go so much better when they are really stressed for things than when you feel completely chill??)
There’s definitely a sweet spot - too confident and you’ll make silly errors, too worried and you won’t be able to concentrate (and you’ll make silly errors). If you go in feeling confident make sure to read the question properly, answer it, then reread the question to make sure you actually answered all of it. My biggest mistake when I go in feeling confident is looking at it, going ‘I know this, easy’ and then missing part of the question.

Quote
Anyways, I should probably stop treating this like it's more important than my looming psych SAC and actually go do work.
I don’t know how much the study design has changed from when I did it but my teacher always thought it was very funny that we learnt about learning at the very end of the year, when we didn’t have much time left to use it.

P.S. don't we just love teachers who make you want to drop a subject??
What's the story with this!? :o

With the release of the exam timetable everything feels way more real - I can't believe that end of year exams are approaching so soon when I am currently panicking about mid-years. I guess I've just been thinking lately how everything ultimately boils down to this one exam even though you've spent a year(s) studying and practising, or for other subjects like English your entire schooling life. I've been maintaining A's since year 7, and it's just so annoying to think that all those years of work could fail me in the moment I need it most next year.

It's weird, innit? But if you put yourself in a good position (which it sounds as though you are), I reckon more often than not the exam sort of falls into place. You can definitely perform well or otherwise on the day, but IMO good preparation very much limits the "damage" a "poor exam" can do. :)

Have enjoyed your posts! Love the fact that we can follow this for the next 18 months. :D

Favourite TV show(s): Grey's Anatomy (ahhhh i love this show so much), Brooklyn Nine-nine (highly recommend) and Skam. If anyone has TV show recommendations, I would love some because I have run out of things to watch  :(

GREY'S ANATOMY, it's one of my top 3 or 5 favourites (along with Gossip Girl, Suits, Stranger Things and unfortunately Master of None), I've admittedly haven't watched it since Derek Shepherd's death (but I still replay his moments from the show, not going to lie he was one of my first crush).

Most of the law aspects on Suits aren't very interesting (although I did gain a slight appreciation of the complexities of corporate law), but the dynamics and relationship between the characters are lit. (not surprising since the cast is very close-knit) Gossip Girl is one of those shows that people don't know why they love it, but it's very much filled with drama and makes you laugh at how fucked up all the characters are. Stranger Things cinematography and story line development is spectacular. Master of None, not really sure whether I can watch it again after Ansari's allegations, I'm still at a lost in regards to how to respond to his work or future works, but it is very funny and I enjoyed it a lot when I watched it.

I would also recommend the first couple of seasons of Walking Dead, it's a bit of a drag now, but the first couple of seasons gives you the goosebumps of life's fragility and survival instincts. Black Mirror is confronting, original and thought provoking, also great if you don't want to get addicted to a show. Sense8, because the ending is sublime (the rest of it is very good as well but the ending is very complete). I've only watched a bit of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but it's very funny. Revenge ended quite a while ago, but it one of the shows I connected to the most alongside Greys Anatomy, because I related to the main character, there are also quite a few lessons about humanity along the way. How I Met Your Mother, because I grew up with the show.

Haven't watched the following but have heard really great things about them; Games of Thrones, Breaking Bad, The Good Place, The Crown and The Handmaid's Tale. I don't mind a bit of horror, so I'm interested in Westworld. Narcos is appealing but I'm not sure how accurate the show is. Love by Judd Apatow is also on my to watch list because I like a bit more comedy. I am also looking forward to Maniac's (Emma Stone and Jonah Hill) release on Netflix

Great to see you back on the forums! :)

I'm glad to hear that you've had a positive (mainly) start to year 12 & I can't wait to see how everything unfolds. Best of luck!

I see this is turning out like all my physical diaries - eagerly written in when I first start, lots of enthusiasm and determination to log every day/week/month, and slowly the entries become fewer and fewer and fewer....
BUT,  that will not happen with this one! I am determined.
So relatable! My physical diaries go from neatly filled out and colour-coded to lying in a dusty corner by May  ;D

Chem
I don't love the theory in Chem as much as I loved Psych, and I don't love the maths application side like I do in Methods, so it's kind of an in between subject. Probably because we are studying fuels, and that isn't really attention capturing. But I do appreciate it as a subject and think I can go well if I'm consistent with practising both theory and application.
Yeah I totally agree that fuels is heavy on the theory side than the maths application side, so it can be a bit dry to those who are more mathematically inclined. Hopefully the next few topics interest you though and it's fantastic you've already recognised the importance of both theory and application in Chem   :D

Keep us updated, love reading your entries!

Hi rani_b! (This is actually my first time posting in a journal other than my own lol)

Fellow Methods struggler, let's go! Yeah, really close to my current view. At this point all the optimism in the world won't be enough for me to believe that I can pass my first SAC (it makes up 17% of total study score *shudders*).

I always feel guilty for not studying (or as well as I would've liked) on a weeknight too! (Today included...) You're by no means alone.

Ah, fellow UCAT-sitter! Nice to see someone else taking it too! And yes, visits to social media platforms always irritate me too, as I know that that Medical entry coach guy won't be too far away. So which courses are you most interested in at the moment? (sorry if this overwhelms you)

Anyways, enjoy your well-deserved break!  :)

Hey Rani!

I think you can take solace in the fact that A LOT of Year 12s are under the pump right now, so don't feel too worried about your Math worries at the moment, there's plenty of time and the exam is worth 66%, a lot more than your other subjects. Methods is definitely a worry for me too, especially with the supremely competitive environment (among other things) but all we can do is keep working hard. Considering your Psych result and your obvious work ethic, you should definitely have faith in your abilities!

Going to any of the ATARNotes lectures, or the meetup on Monday?

Definitely get you with the VCE ads stuff. I especially disliked the ones that implied you'd fail without their help; everyone is stressed enough already, no need to further add on.

If there's too much of it on your social media you could try telling facebook etc not to show that type of ad to you.

Doing year 12 is a different & more stressful experience than doing a headstart subject,  but you can take comfort in having proven your potential & knowing more about how to study/prepare. Holding yourself to a very high standard isn't a bad thing,  but remember that that's what you're doing & even not performing well relative to that standard is something to be proud of.

Please take some time to rest these holidays; you've earnt it and it will help you :)

Great to hear from you again!

I'm glad you're happy with your recent SAC marks; it's  yet more proof to chuck at any voice in your head that tries to stress you out about results :)

I wish my english subject had an oral component to it (I like giving speeches) - is there a particular topic you're thinking of presenting on?

Hopefully your experiences with the chem poster SAC are better than for psysch!

I haven't given it a lot of thought, but I would be interested in doing something related to climate change/impact on youth/government (in)action - it's a topic that I want to be knowledgeable about anyways, so this will be a good opportunity to learn about it but also do my SAC at the same time.

Unsolicited advice: if doing climate change consider going from an economic, health or humanitarian point of view rather than environmental - your teachers will probably appreciate the difference.

If you end up doing something in one of these spaces I'd love to see a draft especially since I'm also quite interested in them :)

Eeee! Good luck with your upcoming sacs, and most importantly your exam! I'm sure you'll smash it.
And missing the train sucks, especially when you are so close to reaching it! I remember last year I was running towards my train, and just as I was touching on my myki and running towards the train doors, the doors closed. What's even worse was the train driver had made eye-contact with me when I was running up the ramp and he knew I wouldn't make it. :'(

It's great you're feeling good about the majority of your subjects. And I get what you mean about methods, I'm lowkey dreading it next year.
All the best 8)
