If i do a double degree Global Studies/Science and major in International Relations in global studies, can i minor in a language? Or do i have to do a diploma in languages if i wanted to do a language?

I had a really quick glance through your intended course and I think (not 100% sure since I took a super brief look) unfortunately it's a no to minoring in a language, as the Global Studies part of the Science/ Global Studies double degree appears to be in specialisations rather than a major/ minor thing. So if you take the IR specialisation, you'd take the core Global Studies units and then complete the IR specialisation using the units from the IR list, which doesn't appear to have any language units per se (i.e. you wouldn't be learning, say, Russian - the language, but Russian culture, history, politics, etc.).

I'd check this and see if what I found is right, as I had such a quick look over it (I'm actually slightly time poor right now), but my guess is the Diploma might be the way to go here if you want the language and IR. Otherwise, if you're not set on IR, you can try the Cultural Competence specialisation within the Global Studies part of the double degree instead (which has a language included). There might also be more than what I saw, so definitely worth a good look and a bit of research of your own to double check.

Sorry about rushing this response.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it, does a diploma of language add another year of subjects to me degree? or do i do it concurrently with my degree? or is it both?

Not entirely sure, so I'd ask Monash to double check this, but I think it's both, depending on how you want to do it. I've heard of people tacking a Diploma of Languages on to the end of their degree and, to a lesser extent, doing it concurrently with their degree.

There's also the possibility of 'overloading' (if you're capable), which means to study more than the standard 4 subject full-time load, that would allow you to get both the BSci/Global Studies and Diploma of Languages done in 4 years (compared to 5 years in total), however, this is generally considered to be difficult and often not recommended.

Here's the Diploma of Languages handbook entry for your perusal and, as stated earlier, please check the information I've given with Monash themselves.
