That's a very unfortunate situation, sorry that you have to go through it!

Proving a negative is difficult. The best thing is simply to keep to the truth; this ensures that your story is constant, your arguments are reasonable, and you have the best chance of coming out on top.

Did you actually work with this student at all? If you did, and they believe there are similarities, then I think your best bet would be to explain away any potential similarities as unconscious and unintentional (it is entirely reasonable that after discussing an assignment with another person that you could conceivably have some similar lines of reasoning). As long as it wasn't malicious or on purpose, you should be fine!

That's exactly what happened - we discussed it and used some of the same references so we had some similar evidence and and understanding. But the way it was written was in no way similar. It definitely wasn't intentional or malicious so hopefully you're right ! Thank you !

You mean in labs and tutorials, yeah? Because I should be next year, and know plenty of people who have been.

Just realising that scholarship applications have already closed......why on earth did Monash not send a single email reminding students of the deadline??? They did for the midyear scholarships, scholarships last year, and summer RESEARCH scholarships this year, but not for this end of year coursework scholarship deadline?

I understand that it was my personal responsibility to check the date, but since neither I nor my friends even realised the applications closed this early it's REALLY lame.

Like, Monash is fine with sending me 10 different emails reminding me about completing SETU surverys for every single one of my units, but doesn't think it's important to send ONE EMAIL reminding me about the deadline for scholarships? What the fuck.

Hi extremeftw

We're sorry that you have missed the scholarships application period. The last round were advertised on the Monash website from August to October for three months and also published under ‘Important Dates’ in the portal. The next round of scholarships are available in January.  You can find all scholarships details on the Scholarships website: https://www.study.monash/fees-scholarships/scholarships

I meant for tutorials, didn't even know you could have tutors in labs.
Hi,

I am well aware the date was publicised.

The point I was making is:

  1) Hardly anybody pays anywhere near as much attention to the "important dates" in the portal as they do their email.

  2) If Monash deems it necessary to send me THREE emails about nominations of students to the academic board and SIX emails about completing SETU surveys, then it is absolutely ridiculous to not send ONE email about coursework scholarships (as had been done in literally every other semester I have attended the university).

The above paragraph sounds whiny (and it is!) and of course the ultimate fault lies with me for not paying closer attention to important dates, but seeming as I personally know at least 2 other people who missed out on the scholarship date due to not knowing about it, I think it's justifiable to be miffed.
Lol this is Monash in a nutshell.

SIX emails about completing SETU surveys

Lol the other week I was waiting on a job offer at 10am and my email notification popped up at 10.20am and my heart rate picked up and my hands were shaking

And it was a SETU servey reminder.

Oh Euler! I'm really interested in doing it. Do your grades need to be like SUPER high? I was thinking of applying to the Math Learning Center, but I think they prefer Math majors over an engineering student. Also my grades aren't exactly stellar.

My friends said that Business Statistics (ETC1000) is extremely easy. They are all math people though, so keep that in mind. I'm doing it next semester.

Thanks for the response :) but unfortunately don't think I can do it cause biomed isnt among the corequisites courses (also not so maths-y myself).
Any other easy subjects out there...pls

Thanks :)
