Has anyone had this problem where your English tutor is teaching you to write extremely long sentences? I am in year 11 and my tutor is teaching me very long sentences to use in my essays. is this a major issue in vce English?

How long is very long?

Some long sentences are problematic, some aren't. Depends on the quality of the sentence, really.

If its ok with you, I'll pm some sentences. There is roughly 60 words per sentence

I am unable to pm you

Why not post an example here? :) If you're concerned about confidentiality, you could change the sentence's content but keep the structure the same.

Without actually seeing some of your long sentences, the main risk is that you'll lose control of the grammar and punctuation. The other problem is that the point you want to make at the start of the sentence may have drifted a bit in the later parts of the sentence. In its favour though, long sentences can allow you to pack a lot in and show your command of effective phrasing and this can contribute to vivid and impactful writing.

Okay, with 60 words per sentence, I am very confident that it is probably too long or could be really greatly improved upon. I could be wrong but the chances are pretty high at a length like that!
