I had my Philosophy teacher for English...that was the best English class I've ever been in.

What a coincidence! I had my philosophy teacher for literature. I absolutely loved those two classes. I had him 4 periods in a row for 2 days which was overwhelming haha. I don't have him anymore but I will for VCE philosophy (that is if enough students choose it - or else I'll do it via distance ed).

It does make English harder, having your philosophy teacher; You can't get away with any fallacies or incorrect logic.

Talking of free periods - do you guys have any this year? At Nossal, the Year 10s have HEAPS (too many, if you ask some people)

None at all :( Wish we had a couple though :-X
But yeah we did have Semester exams this year, will ease up on the content we have to revise for the End of Year exams :P

I do quite like English, especially the part where you read and Analyse texts, that's why I'm going to do literature.

I'd either like to pursue a music career or become a teacher. Becoming a teacher is probably more likely though...

Aiii hello there new 2016er ;D

Hello fellow VCE graduates of 2016!

Anyone else worried about the upcoming subject selection? I'm trying not to worry, but I'm kind of unsure about picking chemistry for next year...I started Yr 10 chemistry this semester, it seems manageable, but I haven't had any tests yet so I don't know how I stack up against my peers. I'm choosing it because, well I love maths and physics and I've heard that chemistry compliments those quite well. I'm also kind of stressing out about not doing advanced general math next year as I plan to do spesh in year 12....My school says that advanced general is not needed for spesh, but the new maths coordinator is kind of telling everyone that they're limiting their chances of success by not doing advanced general. So I'm kind of worried that they won't let me do spesh in year 12 if I don't do advanced general in year 11. Also, I go to a Catholic school ( not Catholic by the way) with about 1100 students and this years spesh math class only has 2 people...As far as I can tell, besides me there is only one other person in year 10 who wants to do spesh in year 12....so what if they don't offer the course due to a lack of students? Another thing that kind of bugs me is that we have to do a RE subject next year, if that wasn't compulsory, I could do advanced general next year. Is anyone else worried about subject selection, or am I just paranoid?

I think we're all concerned about subject selection to an extent. I'm not that concerned though, my school is massive and offers pretty much every subject in VCE. And religious eduction is not available.

Would you be interested in joining the Facebook study group for 2016 graduates? I'll open it up for you to join, if you'd like.

Hello fellow VCE graduates of 2016!
Welcome!

-With AGM, the consensus seems to be that 1/2 Methods is enough for Specialist, and because of that, some schools don't offer it. I'm not an expert though - maybe you could get more advice on the Maths board
-If the school doesn't offer Specialist in your year, you might be able to do it through a distance ed program (again, maybe ask around on the maths board, see if you can find anyone who's doing/who did distance ed specialist)
-If you choose to do Chemistry (might be useful, it's a prerequisite for lots of science/medicine courses), there's a pretty large Chem cohort on Atar Notes, so I'm sure you could get lots of help!

Hope I helped!  :D

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.
YellowTongue, I would have loved to join your study group, but sadly I don't have Facebook, thanks for the offer though.

I know what you mean about going to a catholic school; though its compulsory to do a RE subject in year 11 &12 it's not essential for it to add to your atar...(you can if you want to) I think we do just one unit across the two years or one year I don't really know (my school site is down so I can't look it up). Choose Religion and society as I think that is more philosophy/ethics/discussion based, while text and traditions is more studious.

Regarding everything else you said, Hokiksyo-min explained all I could say pretty well. :)
