Cookie you've saved my ATAR  ;D

Quick question though, what do you mean the square root of a number by itself is positive? I have this problem as well  :(

Here's an example I found on the net which kinda clarifies it:

There are also some good answers here and here

Hope that helps!

Yeah so in simple terms the plus minus is there when you yourself put in the square root in yourself

This guide is absolutely wonderful  :)!

Personally, I also had a somewhat similar experience for Methods 3/4 last year. I remember being nervous for exam 1 (we barely had any practice on tech free), and looking at the last question and blanking out. However, when I actually calmed down, I actually figured out the answer and was quite satisfied (it was a weird exam tbh). For exam 2 though, I also made the similar mistakes (the last question lol), but I still felt thankful for doing the harder practice papers (NEAP, Kilbaha, MAV).

The biggest advice I would give to those doing methods in 2017 is to NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF PRACTICE EXAMS! They are absolutely helpful! Also, kind of learn ahead as well, because Methods requires a fair bit of time to understand the concepts. If your teacher suggests to you to do the VCAA papers last, DO NOT listen to them. Do them first so you have an understanding of the assessed material. Don't overly focus on school SACs for exam revision, because they might not reflect what's going to be on the exam (especially for my school, the maths SACs are generally so poorly written that they always contain quite large mistakes). Also, consult as many resources and have a general idea of what other schools are doing, never rely on just one teacher or one school as they might not be very clear of what's expected when it comes to revising and practice.
2017 ATAR: 99.20

Awesome advice waterangel82!

I still felt thankful for doing the harder practice papers (NEAP, Kilbaha, MAV).
Almost forgot how hard MAV exams were.... Adding this to my post.

^ This advice though.....I can't describe just how essential these points are
Will add to my post if you don't mind  ;D

Good luck for tomorrow everyone!!!!
Remember to keep a clear head, highlight key terms (including decimal points) and write any relevant working if you can't think of anything (just don't leave the question blank).

I used the Cambridge textbook mainly! Their examples and explanations I personally found useful. I also used Maths Quest as well, just as a supplement and as further practice!

I was thinking of writing a methods guide, but I realised that this guide covers basically what I’d write anyway. So, I’ll just offer a few words of advice to add onto this. I personally didn’t do as much of the textbook questions as I should have throughout the year, but instead I familiarised myself with exam style questions from practice exams and practice SAC questions. I recommend everyone doing methods to supplement their textbook questions with practice exam questions. You can easily get your hands on some practice exams if you ask your teacher. I would do questions from old practice exams which were relevant to the upcoming SAC. Just don’t do the VCAA past exams cause you want to save those for nearer to your exam. Also, whatever material the teacher gives as preparation for SACs, make sure you do it. There is a big chance that these questions will be similar difficulty and style to the ones on the SAC. Also, like everyone says, doing practice exams are incredibly important. However, if you’re at that stage where you can do 70% of the questions no problem, but you have trouble with those tricky extended response questions, I’d spend a bit of time going through those instead of going through another timed practice exam. In the lead up to my exam, I’d go through various practice exam papers and pick out the hardest extended response questions to do. I felt like this really helped me to improve my problem solving ability and find patterns on how to approach these difficult questions without getting flustered. Anyway, that’s all from me.
