Super excited to announce that, starting this weekend, we will be holding a weekly Q+A session on the forums. These will be hosted by our amazing team of moderators, who each week will devote a few hours to sit down and field your questions.

Check out the schedule below (I'll post whenever new ones are added) and get ridiculously keen!

THE SCHEDULE

Sunday 10th June (2pm - 5pm): BEATROOT

About Bea

A LITTLE ABOUT BEA

I’ll introduce myself. I’m Beatrice. But you can call me Bea. I’m a Scorpio. My favourite colour is navy blue. I’m a huge High School Musical fan. I don’t like coffee but I do like pulpy orange juice. I’ve done 1 hour on my L’s. I’m Filipino. Nice to meet you! :)

I completed the HSC last year with these fantastic subjects: Standard English, Mathematics, Ancient History, Society & Culture and Visual Arts. I did my art major on the lost of language within Western countries. My body of work was selected for ARTEXPRESS 2018 and will be displayed at the Orange Regional Gallery in August.

I’m currently in my first year of my film degree at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) in Sydney. And yes, it is an arts degree (I’ve heard all the jokes). I study these subjects; Screen Business, Story (Scriptwriting), Image (Cinematography), Character & Performance (Directing), Rhythmn & Juxtaposition (Editing), Sound and Production.

You can ask me ANY question. How did I study for my HSC? Why did I paint for my body of work? What’s it like being Facebook friends with jamonwindeyer? What upcoming film projects do you have planned? Do you prefer Troy & Gabriella’s or Ryan & Sharpay’s version of ‘What I’ve Been Looking For’? How many P’s platers have you gotten free rides from?

Trust me, I’m not as scary as my profile pictures makes me out to be ;) I’m just a beetroot, ready to answer your questions :)

Friday 15th June (5pm - 8pm): VOX NIHILI

About Vox

A LITTLE ABOUT VOX

Vox Nihili is a third year medical student at the university of Melbourne, who completed a Bachelor of Biomedicine (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) in 2015. He has been a moderator at ATAR Notes for a number of years.
Vox Nihili is the current chair of the UMMSS global health collective and is a policy author with the Australian Medical Student Society. The UniMelb Adventures blog was edited by Vox Nihili in 2015, after its founder Daphane Ng moved to the workforce.
Proudly from a low SES background, Vox Nihili attended his local public school in Geelong and maintains a strong commitment to fighting educational disadvantage, which is the reason for his continued presence on ATARNotes, as well as his roles as coordinator of the Teaching Support Office at VCESS and HR Officer at SWOT. Vox is proud to have worked with VCAA at their Plain English Speaking Award, which sees students from all backgrounds compete to be named the best public speaker in Victoria. His work in education recently saw him awarded the Geelong Youth Award for Leadership.
Outside of medicine, Vox is learning Chinese and enjoys spending time with friends, reading and watching the footy.

Friday 22nd June (5pm - 8pm): K888

ABOUT K888
A LITTLE ABOUT K888

Hi all! What's crackalackin'?

My name's Kate and I'm one of the National Moderators here at ATAR Notes. A bit about me - my favourite sport is soccer, if I had to consume one beverage for the rest of my life it'd be tea, I hate vacuuming but don't mind sweeping, and I really want a cat (but would also be happy with a dog). I grew up in a rural area and completed VCE in 2016, having studied Revolutions, English, French, Chemistry, Biology and Methods. I've since moved down to the big smoke and I'm now in my second year of Physiotherapy at Monash University - my dream course!

Feel free to ask me absolutely any questions, but I think I'm best posed to answer questions about post-high school life, dealing with health issues during schooling, studying physiotherapy, moving out, or anything else

Friday 29th June (5pm - 8pm): FANTASTICBEASTS3

About FB3

Hey, I’m fantasticbeasts3. Lover of avocado toast. Avid Harry Potter, How I Met Your Mother and Brooklyn Nine-Nine fan.

A bit more about me: I’m a first year International Studies and Media (PR & Advertising) student at UNSW. I completed my HSC last year and studied these subjects: Modern History, Legal Studies, Business Studies, Mathematics and English (Standard).

What’s this Q&A for? Well, you can ask me pretty much anything: What exactly is International Studies? Why did I choose International Studies and/or Media? Why UNSW? How did I study during the HSC? How did I deal with studying uncommon options in my subjects? How do I overcome procrastination? How do I deal with stress? Who’s my favourite Harry Potter character? What am I watching on Netflix right now? What’s my favourite One Direction song?

Looking forward to all your questions!!

PS. please follow me on my Harry Potter instagram (linked above) there are so many unfollowers lol

Friday 6th July (5pm - 8pm): CALEBARK

About Caleb

Yooooooo,

My name's Caleb, and I'm one of ATAR Notes' favourite reptiles!

I studied Year 12 in 2016 and 2017, where I completed Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Further Mathematics, in addition to proudly dropping out of University Extension. I've deferred my first-year position at Monash Science for a year while I earn some dosh and, more importantly, try to figure out what I want in life.

My VCE was filled with some fun extra challenges, the most notable one being a few months spent homeless, which is why I'd be more than keen to try and help with any questions about dealing with disadvantage in secondary education. I've also got a spare bit of wisdom for dealing with independent living, three-year VCEs, and memes -- however I am more than happy to deal with any sort of question.

In other parts of my life, I spend too much time listening to music, finding the next dog to pet, and coming last at weekly trivia.

Saturday 14th July (2pm-5pm): BLASONDUO

About Blasonduo

Hello!! I’m blasonduo, and I’m currently undertaking a bachelor of science majoring in physics and a bachelor of education at UNSW :)). I have this strange love for physics; I love to enjoy learning physics and talking about physics. I hope I am able to introduce others into this world of wonder and amazement :)

During the HSC last year, I did all 3 major sciences, Physics, Biology and Chemistry, did fairly well in them and thoroughly enjoyed the content. People thought that this was insane :))

My favourite colour is pasture green; my favourite animal is the Tasmanian devil, I enjoy amusement park rides, I am a family of 8, quite enjoy nightly train rides and have had my L’s for almost 3 years now :P.

The great thing here is that you can ask me anything, absolutely anything!! Wanna know how I went about doing the 3 major sciences? Sure! Wanna know my thoughts on altering grass,so it is now blue? Sure! I just can’t guarantee an answer!

Saturday 21st July (2pm-5pm): KATIE RINOS

About Katie

A LITTLE ABOUT KATIE

Hey!! I’m Caitlin, but my nickname and forum username is Katie. I love listening to music, Harry Potter, reading and history.  I’m a leader of year 3 girls at my local Girls Brigade. I’ve played the clarinet since year 3 (11 years!) and am involved in my communities’ band and the UNSW wind symphony.

I completed my HSC last year studying an amazing 13 units, which included: Music 1, Ancient, Extension History, Legal, Hospitality, General Maths and Advanced English. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education at UNSW! :D

Feel free to ask me anything at all and I’ll try my best to give a really helpful answer! Whether it’s how I studied for one of my subjects? What I did for my music/extension history major works? Why I did 13 units? What the audition process for UNSW/the conservatorium is actually like? What’s it’s like studying both music and education at uni? What’s my favourite songs? Or Hogwarts house/patronus?

Looking forward to your questions!!  ;D

Friday 3rd August (5pm-8pm): INSANIPI

About Insanipi

A LITTLE ABOUT INSANIPI
Hey hey!
My name's Lou! A bit about me - I grew up in the western suburbs of Melbourne and completed VCE in 2016, having studied English, Methods, Chemistry, Physics, and Specialist Maths. I volunteer at what feels like a million different places- including the Red Cross, and I'm a doting big sister to my younger siblings. I find little babies adorable, I legit will play peek-a-boo with any baby I see. I'm also currently completing my second year in Pharmaceutical Science at Monash in Parkville! I also have 0 hours on my Learner's, my favourite colour is green, I swear Metro Trains is my worst enemy, I wear glasses, and I've got fears of both dogs AND hospitals.

Ask me anything- ideas include: whether Calebark is indeed a tortoise, why I haven't driven... ever, my favourite food, how I make time for everything, why I chose PharmSci or even how my day is!

Friday 10th August (5pm-8pm): ORB

About Orb
A LITTLE ABOUT ORB
Hey guys, I'm Rob, currently a third year student studying the Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne!

I've been involved with a number of student societies during my time as a student, currently with BusinessOne, a pro-bono consulting club and many education related initiatives (ASHA, SWOT and VCESS!)

I had the fortune of representing the university internationally for a case competition and will be going to Montreal Canada for exchange soon!

I've also had the fortune of working in Strategy consulting, impact investing and banking, as well as receiving offers in tech!

Outside of uni I love reading and watching NBA.

Sunday 19th August (3pm - 6pm): POTATOHATER

About Potatohater
A LITTLE ABOUT PH
I’m a quidditch playing dancer, filmmaker, theatre nerd and journal addict who completed the HSC in 2017.

I took, and loved, advanced English, general maths, Drama, Biology and Geography, and left with 3 band 6’s and an ATAR wayyyyy higher than I needed. But I’d say the greatest achievement is being able to do the HSC whilst also having a life, as I also danced, debated, was in the school musical, went out with my friends and had a fast food job (eww). So yeah, you could say it was pretty full on.

As for what my post high school life entails, I am currently doing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in theatre & performance studies at USyd (the hardest decision but the best one!), whilst also playing an absolute tonne of quidditch (#thirdMajor?) taking on production crew roles with the dramatic society, dancing, working as a tutor and debate adjudicator and volunteering as a REELise youth ambassador. So yeah, you could say this year is just as full on as the last!

So ask me anything! From how I manage my life all the way down to why I don’t like potatoes. No question is too big, small, stupid or intelligent, they are all welcome and appreciated. So ask away!

Friday 24th August (5pm - 8pm): MINITURTLE

About Miniturtle
A LITTLE ABOUT MINITURTLE
Hi!
As the name miniturtle may have suggested,  I am near-obsessed by turtles - which is what first drew me to science and conservation. In VCE I studied psychology,  biology,  chemistry,  physics, and  methods.  I also studied units 1&2 of literature and outdoor ed,  but literature wasn’t for me so I studied units 3&4 english language by distance education instead.

Over the years I was able to participate in a range of leadership experiences,  starting in grade 5 with  conservation of local grasslands and continuing through year 12 as vice school captain,  youth mayor (of the local youth advisory committee), and (for a time) chairman of the local venturer scout unit.

These dual interests led me to where I am now,  studying the Bachelor of Science Advanced - Global Challenges  (Honours), (forgive the pretentious name) at Monash University. As part of my course I'm running a STEM camp for year 8 students,  so if anyone can think of what engaged them in science (that I could maybe incorporate) that would be great!

Aside from that, I’m on the Monash Advanced Science Society Committee and am an Access Monash Mentor - so if you if you have questions about clubs & societies,  support available for disadvantaged students at Monash, what mentoring is like, or even  how to make the best of catching  vline trains everyday… I'll do my best :)

Final words: at the highschool I went to,  the dux hasn't had a 90+ ATAR for the past few years,  but we had 3 95+s in my cohort.
In year 9 I was told by a teacher (with reason due to my motivation struggles) that I wouldn't cope with VCE. Yet I duxed all of my subjects, starting with the one they taught (we have a fantastic working relationship now).
Your history doesn't define you.  Your school’s history doesn’t define you.  You,  present you and future you working together,  are the only one who can do that.
More coming soon!
