Mathematical jargon (nonsensical), possibly an allusion to an event later on within the novel?

Does anyone know a technique for

"Your worse enemy, he reflected, was your own nervous system. At any moment the tension inside of you was liable to translate itself into some visible symptom"

Really struggling... personification maybe? I have no idea

Thanks in advance

"Your worse enemy, he reflected, was your own nervous system. At any moment the tension inside of you was liable to translate itself into some visible symptom"

Hyperbole? (Assuming you meant "worst.")
Ominous, contemplative tone?

I don't know...you should probably just wait for the experts.

I'd agree with personification, definitely! And figurative language at the end there too. But miss_demeanour is definitely correct with the tone too! You could do something like this for analysis:

The composer's ominous personification of the nervous system as "your worst enemy," communicates ___________ to the audience.

You can use 'absurd syllogism' (syllogism means a deductive argument....in this case 2+2 does not equal 5, so it is 'absurd')
