Hey Jamie,
First: break down the question. What EXACTLY is it asking you to do? How can you advance it to make it a higher level, and be more sophisticated? What sort of 'new understandings' or 'renewed perceptions' are there in this text that you can link to your related text? (Even if the essay question is asking for one, it's always good to practice linking texts thru ideas).
There's a heap of chapters re thesis statements in this textbook called 'Manipulate Your Marker' by Mitchell Grotte, check it out; it's really helpful and will improve your essay writing heaps!
